I just switched from a manual tuning amplifier to an automatic tuning amplifier. I need help setting it up.
Can anyone share the procedure for using the ACOM-2000A Amplifier with ExpertSDR2 so that the amps will change frequency with the radio.

Hi Sam,

together with Roman I got my cable to the ACOM 700S running. Roman has also published the schematic.

If it does not work, the 1A fuse in the SunSDR2 DX may be defective. This happened to me also 1x.

Attached are the documents and photos of my connector.

Thank you kindly Mr. Mathias.
I carefully followed your instructions. I made the following cable.

ACOM2000ACable2.jpg

Then I made this other one:

ACOM2000ACable.jpg

Still nothing worked.
It appears that that particular cable is not for the ACOM 2000A Amplifier.

The user manual for the ACOM 2000A show a different CAT cable:

KenwoodtoAcom200ACATcable.png

I made that cable also and use a USB to serial cable to connect to my computer .
I plug the other end into the ACOM 2000A Amplifier but still no response when I change frequency on the radio.

Once again I would like to thank DD5MD for his detailed explanation an and wonderful presentation.

Hi Sam,

I have selected the "Kenwood TS850" interface, but it works on my ACOM 700S just as error free with the interfaces "YAESU FT-897" and "YAESU NEW".

After looking at the manual of the 2000A, I think that the correct interface is on the "Remote Control Unit" under "g".

Unfortunately, the pin assignment of the socket is nowhere to be found. In my manual (see screenshot) I have 2 tables (CAT/AUX and RS232).

I would ask ACOM for the pin assignment.

Kind regards

Mathias

Here is what I have on the ACOM 200A Amplifier :

This is the 15 pin connector that is on the Amplifier

Acom2.png

The connection to Kenwood and Yaesu looks the same

The only configuration option I have on the Amplifier is this selection:

Hi Sam,

the diagrams in the ACOM 2000A manual show all pin assignments for a "RS232 CAT Connection".

What is not to be found is the pin assignments for "BCD Band Data". I think it is the same pinout as on the ACOM 600S and 700S.

Attached is a PDF from ACOM. The pin assignment for "BCD Band Data" also fit on my 700S.

Kind regards

Mathias

Thank you kindly, Mr. Mathias.

I built the Kenwood CAT cable as shown on the diagram.
I expected that it would have worked perfectly if could be connected directly to any transceiver.
But with my SUNSDR2dx I would need to connect it to my PC .
That part I did.
I used a serial to USB cable.
I did not use TCI or SDC software.
Instead I tried to connect the ACOM 2000A as the only CAT device from the OPTIONS Menu on ExpertSDR2DX.
CAT was configured for the correct COM port in the CAT section of the OPTIONS menu.
Then I tried to connect the transceiver to the ACOM 2000A Amplifier.
Nothing happened!
I couldn't figure out how to get it to work!

I am still trying to find out from anyone who got the ACOM 2000A to work following the SUNSDR2dx when the frequency and band changes.

I would like to ask Mr.. Mathias:
  • Which cable do you use to Key your amplifier?
  • What cable allow the amplifier to change band and frequency?
  • What configuration is required after the cable is installed?
  • Can all of all of this be performed with just one cable?

Thank you for your time and your kind assistance.

Hi Mathias,

I am trying to get my ACOM 1200S working with my SUNSDR2 DX. But no luck.
Cat cable connected to amplifier and transceiver.
Configured my Band Manager (See image)
Did my setup on the ACOM amplifier. (See image)
What do I need to do more??
Do I need to config also RADIOSYNC?
I work on a IMAC.

Thank you kindly for your suggestions.
Tim

HI,
I don't have an Acom, so I couldn't test it, but I use a PGXL amplifier that works as expected CAT control with EESD2 or EESDR 3 via SDC or RADIOSYNC? Why do I prefer SDC or Radiosync for the reason that then I have a free com port to use for a logger that does not support the TCI protocol...Flex PGXL uses the CAT Kenwood protocol itself... if you need the details contact me...
