TOPIC: Griffin PowerMate as VFO-knob

Griffin PowerMate as VFO-knob 28 Feb 2023 08:40 #1

Hi, I have a Griffin PowerMate ( www.minipc.de/catalog/il/453 ) USB-connected rotary and push knob. I have previously used it for HamRadioDeluxe as a very handy VFO-knob and menue selector. Is it in some way possible to get EESDR3 to read the knob? 73 de SM2SXA

Dependent on OS you running.

Also there is "simple way" and "right way".

Example of "simple way: for Mac.

Example of "right way":

Thank You Pavel, but since I am neither a mac user nor a software engineer, the tips You are proposing does not help me much.
I will wait for other answers in relation to the matter.
FYI, i run Win10, sorry for not telling in first post.

This device acts like a HID i guess. So its like a mouse/keyboard. Its not in production any more. I tried installing the configuration software but its not running in win11.

But if your software is working i dont see why it should not work with the radio. I also found several source codes to use the device.

So it should be possible to make a program that works with TCI but i dont think you gain so much as it only handles button press (long/short), rotation etc.

Tnx for repy Kai.
I think that the PowerMate gives me exactly what i want, rotation (i.e. VFO) and button-press (to select step-size or other things).
It is not very practical or convenient to tune in HF-transmissions with a mouse, or a keyboard.
For that purpose, it is much more handy to use a VFO-knob, and I miss it alot.
I know there is the E-coder, that gives me what I am looking for, plus extra buttons, but to a price that is standing out.
And since i have the PowerMate, and it is sturdy and solid, and still working, I thought that it might work.
Maybe someone with skills could put together some code, that reads the PowerMate and sends it into ExpertSDR, to do VFO-tuning the same way as the E-coder can do.

How’s this instead … I would need to add an ethernet port or maybe Wifi.

For this 8600 receiver
Blue = Band Change
Magenta = Mode Change
Red = Tuning Step Change
Cyan = +/- 500Hz VFO increments
White = +/- 10Hz VFO increments
Yellow = +/- 1 Hz VFO increments
