I really need to have Ham Radio Deluxe running when I am using ExpertSDR2. I also need to have my SteppIR SDA100 controller running when I am using ExpertSDR2. I am unable to find step by step instructions on how to load two software on the one CAT that ExpertSDR2 software provides.
I have purchased several serial port emulators including VSPE and still can't get them to work because of the lack of detailed instructions. The response I got from support was to configure TCI or use VSPE or SDC and read UMA. I have done all of that and still need detail instruction in a logical sequence to have my software work with your ExpertSDR2. I certainly don't have that problem with my Flex 6300. :unknown: :unknown: Help! Please

This is all in the UMA, there is nothing that can be added to those instructions. A summary follows that utilizes the TCI/SDC method. Once up and running, should you wish to change to the more complex split ports in VSPE then please ask. This though will prove there are no other issues than configuration.

1 Configure VSPE as you see in the UMA page 11. VSPE with its profile needs to be started at computer boot. The UMA gives this instruction.
2 In ESDR2 Options, TCI tab, enable Transceiver Control Interface. Leave the port as default.
3 In ESDR2 Options, CAT tab, set the parameters thus:

4 Run HRD. In the Connect panel set the parameters like this:

HRD will connect to ESDR2 and you will see your radio frequency displayed in the main GUI.

5 Next, attach a FTDI USB serial adapter to your computer or use an existing serial port. I have to make some assumptions here since there was no detail in your question. But since you previously used a Flex, I presume you operated the SDA 100 through USB cable management in Smart SDR. In Device Manager you will have something akin to this:

The crux of this is to have serial enumerator checked so that a unique port number is assigned.

6 Download and install SDC from sdc.qrz.ru/installers/SDC_15.05x64_setup.exe
In its install directory there is a comprehensive English language manual. For our purposes, on the Setup tab enable: no-kill window, PA Control with auto start, and Use TCI. Have a means of having SDC load at computer boot by creating a start-up task in task sheduler. Right now it is ok to manually run it but do so before launching ESDR2.

7 In SDC TCI tab enable TCI as below (do not worry about focus helper):

In SDC PA tab configure your SDA100 COM port to receive CAT data from ESDR2. I have the Ultrabeam controller and the COM 3 that you see matches the COM number above in my Device Manager.

8 You must make a Save in SDC to save settings and preserve them for the next launch.

This should get you running with both HRD and the SDA100.

This is a bit too complicated for me to follow. I tried all night and then all day.
I give up!
I purchase several 3rd party software to help with the process, but with no success.
I think I will wait for a companion program that can load CAT in a simple way like Flex SDR does.
Your ExpertSDR2 will run just one instance of CAT, I will use that for my SteppIR SDA-100 controller.
I sincerely hope that this will be addressed in future release of ExpertSDR.

Thanks,

By the way. My PC configuration is much different from the one in the example given.
I Have 4 serial ports installed on my PC that shows up in Device Manager as COM3; COM4; COM7 and COM8

The only difference that makes is that you are lucky enough to not need the adapter. Incidentally, ESDR2 and ESDR3 have unlimited CAT. This is implemented via TCI. Think of it as being like the CAT/DAX interfaces of Flex. VSPE is still useful for linking software like HRD, N1MM, etc to the SDR.

If you bought your radio from NSI, Yuri will provide assistance to new purchasers I believe. You should ask him. Alternatively, EE themselves can implement the above in a few minutes via a TeamViewer session.

Hello Sam,

as already said, things aren't so difficult. I suggest you ask for a single config step and I am sure you'll find a way to solve it and go on with the next.

Now, supposing you need 2 CAT ports for two different programs:
- just create two VSPE pair, let's say COM8-COM9 and COM10-COM11
- configure the RIG-Emulator in SDC assigning one end to SDC and the other end to the two programs

Also, supposing you need two CAT ports for hw devices, let's say COM1 and COM3:
- just select COM1 and COM3 and configure the RIG-Emulator for each port.

You can see the whole (my) setup in the picture below.

SDC-RigEmulator.jpg

The SDC Rig Emulator is the equivalent SmartSDR-CAT, the only difference is you have to create the pair by yourself. Even if you don't see them, SmartSDR creates serial pairs behind the scenes, but the behaviour is the same. In addition, to make the configuration more reliable, be sure VSPE emulator and SDC start before EESDR. Also be sure the TCI port, in EESDR, is always enabled.

I hope this can help.
Once you are done, post here the next configuration step you need.

Best 73'
Enzo

Thanks, very much Erik. I carefully went through the instructions again and I very happy that I no longer have a problem. In addition I got PstRotator to work with my DCU3 from HY-Gain and it is working out much better than the rotor controller in Ham Radio Deluxe
Thanks, again for your patience and excellent support.

Thank you Enzo! I hadn't seen, nor understood the role of the RIG-Emulator box! Now I understand how ExpertSDR3 can drop the COMM port settings; they are in SDC, within the TCI tab, under the RIG-Emulator box. Where might I have found that published up to now?
