Hello Users.

I'm playing with the new E-Coder2 mostly in CW and I noted this problem:

Connecting the Phones and the Key directly to the ecoder-2 the CW monitor is not the real one that goes on air. The speed and the tone that I hear thought the phones connected to the ecoder2 and the phones connected thought the sun are completely different. So if you trust the audio coming out from the ecoder2 nobody will answer to you call in cw.

Does anyone noted the same behavior ?

I think that's the price you pay for a low latency sidetone. If you listen to the actual audio, there will be a bit of latency and that will mess up your ability to send code.

I'm not agree since is not just low latency sidetone ! But is completely different stuff it's unusable, you set 30 wpm to the radio and on e coder come out 20 wpm or less. Chris

Oh - that sounds like a different problem. I have ordered my E-Coder2 but am still waiting for delivery so I can't test it out at the moment.

Right!

So please keep in touch in order to understand how the guys from Expert tried the functionality of it and test the same conditions (EE version and firmware etc.)

Hello, everyone.
You can just ask us directly, I rarely read Forum.
E-Coder2 has its own DSP core, we've implemented it to avoid any latency in monitoring, but the sound you hear will differ from what you actually TX on the air. That is the price you have to pay for no latency monitoring.
You still can listen to yourself using monitoring sound from PC, but it'll have a delay, as you understand.

This might not be related to E-Coder2 specifically though. Maybe it has to do with some other network related issues.

When I send CW to a remote machine, I find that the quality of the code sent depends a lot on the computer speed and the network latency. I imagine if that computer is underpowered, there will be a lot of timing issues. It would be great if there were a way to improve the timings but we will have to wait and see.

Hi,
I heard the audio coming out from the IZ8EYP ECoder2 and it seems completely unrelated to the code generated by the rig.
But the point isn't the delay between the ECoder2 and the rig. It is normal and in remote condition you can't feel it.
The point here is the difference in the code played with a key connected to the Ecoder2 and the code heard from a headphone connected to the same ecoder2. One would expect the local audio from Ecoder2 is in sync with the code sent with the key. It doesn't matter if the rig send it on air after 500 ms. The local audio is simply out of sync and almost unusable.

I am wondering which is the audio path when the key is connected to the Ecoder2: who is generating the audio? The ecoder itself or is it EESDR that sends the audio to the ECoder2 like it was another souncard?

I hope this is enough to clarify the issue, but please forget the latency between the local station and the remote rig. The problem is only on the local side between Ecoder2 and EESDR.

Hello,
Thanks for the explanation. We'll check this out in the nearest future.

Regarding Enzo's question, there are 2 ways to monitor yourself via E-Coder2:
1. Using the DSP core in the panel, this way audio is generated by the panel itself which eliminates monitoring delay, but the sound you hear will differ from what you actually TX on the air.
2. Using the ESDR3 DSP, this way you hear exactly what you TX, but with a delay.

Thank you Roman,
this make a lot of sense.
I am confident Ecoder2 will work as expected in the first scenario you described.

Thank you Roman and all EE GUYS for your work, we all are confident that once the 3 version will be totally ready with all accessories as ecoder 2 it will make the difference !

Hi Roman
Can we monitor the CW side tone with e-coder 2 dsp core from EESDR 2 (1.3.1 - update 11) or is till only intended to work on EESDR3?

I have the same issue after acquiring e-coder 2. Instead of CW side tone all I hear is the constant tone and not CW.

In short, is e-coder 2 suitable for use with EESDR2 when it comes to utilizing DSP core?

Thanks

Hi Nick.
At the moment, there is an issue in E-Coder2 firmware related to the CW-core. I've addressed this in the Telegram news channel just a couple of days ago - t.me/EE_News.
"What we still have to do before making an official release of ExpertSDR3 0.13.0 is to implement a new CW-core in the firmware for each transceiver, then E-Coder2 and then align it with the Server software or ERS. The plan is to release the ExpertSDR3 0.13.0 in 5 weeks."

With the release of the new CW-core E-Coder2 will definitely work OK with ESDR3, but I can't say how it'll work with ESDR2, since their CW-cores are different.
