My Transmit audio is unintelligible!. "ON" or "Eye" both sound like "Auh", "Aye" sounds like "EL".
I am transmitting into a 50R dummy load SSB on 7.176 MHz, using ExpertSDR2. I am receiving on an Icom IC-R10 with whip antenna, listening on headphones.
I have tried Mic 1, Mic 2 and Mic PC. I have adjusted the gain of the microphones.
I tried an Icom SM-20 into MIC2 and adjusted its' gain setting to avoid any clipping or overload, tried compression.
I tried an headset microphone into MIC1.
I have tried various "Transmitter signal processing" with equalization on/off.
Whatever I tried I get the same distortion.
I think I must be doing something stupid or my SunSDR2DX is faulty?

2 things come to mind

1) OVERLOAD
2) wrong mode on R10- most likely FM and not SSB or wrong side of SSB

Thank you for the replies. I have applied all the settings as in the video and tuned the receiver about 600Hz off frequency to get the best sound.
Now just about intelligible but sounds AWFUL, does actually sound overloaded. I have tried different microphone gain settings. The transmitter signal analyser shows the signal is not overloaded but below the pink noise line. I think that I probably need a better quality microphone although the SM-20 was not cheap.

Hi John the best thing to do is a Video of what your settings are and what you sound like if you can, with OBS or other Prog or even on your phone and upload it to YouTube thats the best way to get some help even a Sked could help with someone who has a SDR radio.

Hi Robert, Good idea! I would do this if I could work out how to use OBS Studio with VAC with ExpertSDR2. It would be good if I could listen to the audio prior to transmitting because listening to the transmitted signal as received on my IC-R10 does add further distortion.

No the best thing you can do to start with is USE a LOCAL SDR WEB RECEIVER and listen to it rather than the R10

that was never good SSB reciver the audio bandwith is VERY NARROW, infact so narrow it would lead to distortion

and the fact your like i said probably hitting the front end of the radio hard with RF- its a BARNDOOR on recieve soits going to sound awful.

Take the SDR off a dummy load, put it on a decent antenna and look for a Kiwi SDR or some other local HF SDR reciever that is open to public you caan get a deceent s9+ signal into, find a clear spot put your transmitter on teh same frequency- and give it a test1

Then if still bad, capture teh WebSDR on video and audio do a few transmit tests and link the video- stop using the R10 as a lcal receiver- a diode and attching a crystal element set of headphones is going to produce the same SHIT sound,

Thank you, I connected the transmitter to dummy load but reduced the transmit power to about 1W and tuned the IC-R10 1kHz higher in frequency and I now have a good sound. Was able to adjust the transmitter signal processing settings to achieve even better sound.
