Wow! very impressed with the latest version of the software. This is the first version of the v3 software I have downloaded and installed and used in earnest. When the latest v3 software was first installed, it landed on the firmware update page. So I went along with the prompts and installed the latest version of the firmware. Later, when I switched back to v2 (1.3.1_u9), it also prompted me to 'update' the firmware!!

I also let the v2 software perform the 'upgrade'.

After that, both versions seem to work fine without a problem.

The UI is very different in v3 vs v2. Takes a bit of getting used to but I like it. It is very efficient and makes good use of the screen real estate.

I really like the new ANC button. [Automatic Noise Cancellation].

I cannot seem to access the AGC settings for RX. I can turn it off or switch to normal or fast. Apparently there are settings... but I can't find them.

If anyone has some tips I'd appreciate it.

Yep, a lot of stuff added ... nice progress so far.

Meantime I cannot see ANC button in my version. Seems as a conflict with previously installed alpha 0.8.1 - what I have in filters bar pretty much looks like 0.8.1 (may be I need to find and kill previously recorded settings ...). I have already found couple things which may go wrong if you have used 0.8.1 before, hopefully guys will fix them quickly.

Updated TCI is still on the way, according to Roman the work should start next week on it.

Quick update.

Important - below is applicable only for guys, who were using alpha 0.8.1 before and now testing alpha 0.9. If you did not install previous alphas - you most likely will not have that issue, hence ignore.

On MacOS when you run freshly installed alpha 0.9 you may get a glich - frontend panel may still appear as it was in A 0.8.1 (i.e for example ANC ANF buttons are missing in filters, etc.). Same problem is present in Mac and Win10. I believe this glitch is because 0.9 still using 0.8.1 settings. Here is quick workaround (before EE fixes it properly):

ScreenShot2021-09-05at15.05.07.png

Quick-and-dirty workaround for MacOS:
1. Open Library and under Preferences locate Expert Electronics folder. Find ExpertSDR3 folder and delete it completely with all content. Make sure you do not delete ExpertSDR2 folder (or you create yourself a problem with ESDR2 settings).

ScreenShot2021-09-05at18.57.45.png

2. Under same Preferences, just above Expert Electronics folder there is a file called eesdr.com.plist - delete it too.

3. Remove ESDR3 alpha 0.9 from you Mac and then reinstall it again from dmg. Now everything is back to normal, all buttons and functions are OK

BTW, if you had any issues with engaging external PA - AND you were using A 0.8.1 before - same operation described above should fix it.

For Win10 - same thing, just need to find where previously recorded settings for ESDR3 are and remove them. Would appreciate if someone will locate it, as I am still busy testing stuff under Mac.

I fully agree. I like the new release a lot and since it was published it is the only version I used .
There are few things that still need some workaround but it is fully operational.
AGC for example doesn't excite me, I think that the most of us would like more features other than AGC auto and norm/fast/off.
Although, I'm now able to use it per day basis.
If you still in doubt if it worth the installation I made some video

The bar slider adjusts the threshold and if you right click on the bar slider you can try the new auto mode and set the desired S/N range you wish it to keep in auto mode. Further parameters are not exposed in the new version but may be in a future “pro” variant of the software. I’m very picky about AGC and I’m finding the defaults in this release to work quite nicely.

In particular the auto AGC in combination with the new ANC is remarkable for phone/SSB.

I do seem to have a problem with 2M. The receiver isn't very sensitive and even local repeaters are difficult to hear. I checked that the antenna was sett to ANT1 and not ADC. TX side seems to be OK in that I can open repeaters but they are all to weak to hear. All is fine when I revert to v2 of ExpertSDR.

Hi Experts ...

I use SDR2 , JTDX (2.2.156) via TCI. ... ALL good on a Sunsdr2-DX

Now tried additional to install Sunsdr3 A 0.9.0 - (without prior installing 0.8.1)
Beside activation the TCI in Sunsdr3 (port mentioned is diff .. 50001 now) , is there anything I need to change in JTDX beside the port from 40001 to 50001 ???
At least I just see "Rig failure" - "TCI could not be opened"

During installation - MX Visual C++ 2015 - 2019 redistrib pack was installed a second time... ?

Any ideas what I am missing?

Hi Pavel VK6NX

Thanks for the info on OSX systems for deleting the files in the /Library folder. It took a while to find them as they were hidden, but it worked.
This version of ESDR3 is finally working on transmit on CW for me. OSX 10.14 system.

Question: Is there a way to adjust the sensitivity of the waterfall? It is too bright for me.

Ah, sorry Rick, I have completely forgotten to explain how to get to Library and which do we need (because it as minimum as two), Typically you do not need to go there ... unless you are developing own apps or - as we do - testing Alphas :)

We do NOT need the global Library: Finder->Go->Computer->HD. We are after User Library located in Finder->Go->Computer->HD->Users->[UserName]. By default you do not see Library, because it is hidden folder. To un-hide press simultaneously Shift + Command + ">"Key (left to "?" Key on your keyboard). Hidden folders will be displayed greyed out, but now accessible.

I usually drag and drop it to the left bar to get quick access to it.

Fair warning - deleting settings means literally deleting all of them. Whatever you set up in interface - you have to re-do it again. That is why it is "dirty" way. Settings are typically compared and validated by application while you are upgrading it, but full functionality only in "release" (it is unfair to demand this to be working in alpha/beta). For me it fixed not only interface (I've been testing everything since A0.7 and my setting for ESDR3 were complete mess), but also some TX issues via TCI.

Waterfall settings still in development as far as I know.

One nasty thing I have right now in A0.9: E-Coder - Valcoder works fine, but encoders are horribly missing steps. Wonder if it is only me, or someone else got it too.

@MikeVIE - check with Igor (UA3DJY) if JTDX is already updated for TCI 1.5. ESDR3 uses TCI 1.5 interim version (and this is important that it is interim, as new features are about to be pouring in). Some 3rd party developers may wait till TCI 1.5 final will be out and only then fix their integration. Important thing why developers may do this way is because there (at least at this stage) no backward compatibility for TCI 1.4 in ESDR2 - whatever features are in TCI 1.5 will may never come into ESDR2 at all. For JTDX it means that guys either have to maintain two JTDX versions, or (alternatively 1) implement TCI version selection or (alternatively 2) wait till ESDR3 release and migrate.
