Ladies & Gentlemen;

Its a frustrating time right now to own and operate a SunSDR. I have the SunSDR2-DX running with the latest alpha ExpertSDR 3.0.8.1 along side the ExpertSDR2 update 9. Now I'd like to thank everyone involved with the development, however, can you please give us all an outline of the planned roadmap - milestones with dates (months)?

I'm signed up to get notifications but for whatever reason it doesn't work.

So why is it frustrating, because ExpertSDR3 is so much better than 2 but its has a significant bug right now and lacks key functionality! If you could just fix the TCI bug than is preventing JTDX from working that would really be appreciated. Then I could spend much more of my time using version 3 and not having to keep jumping back to version 2 and experiencing all of its known performance issues.

A basic timeline of updates would be perfect. We all know these can slip but at least it would demonstrate your intentions. For me they are too vague at the moment...

Again, I do appreciate all of the hardwork going on in the background, however, more communication is needed during these alpha software releases, please.

Regards

Neil

Hi Neil,

Why not try using MSHV until the bug is resolved. . MSHV also uses the TCI protocol and it is easy to set up.

Maybe JTDX needs to update there code , the new version of 0.9.0 uses TCI version 1.6
JTDX has been pretty slow on updates and fixes, and I will second using MSHV, only problem there is no MAC version-- for those using MACs

I'll certainly take a look at MSHV so long as the learning curve isn't too steep... Hopefully its very similar to JTDX?

I'd still like a better roadmap, it would certainly help me to be a little more patient!!! :good:

Thanks for the comments.

Welcome to the club, Neil, "frustration" was always been "the most popular" word to describe ESDR user's feelings for years. You may search forum back 10 years and you will find it. Recommendation is (also found years ago) - just cease it (spares nerves) and simply look for workaround - that is what guys already suggested you to do (above).

Re JTDX - there is no bug. ESDR2 = TCI 1.4, ESDR3 A0.8 = TCI 1.5, ESDR3 A0.9 = TCI 1.6 - well, are you really expecting JTDX dev team to jump up and down every time when new TCI version is out? Hold on, but there is, literally, a month between A0.8 and A0.9 ... so? As far as I know, there are two people are working on TCI integration in JTDX team, and both are enthusiasts, not paid stuff. If you are programming-capable and have a time - join them and help, otherwise ... whatever.

"Patience" appear to become next "hit of the season" amongst this forum (thanks to Martin)
Well ... my own view that "patience" and "SunSDR" are, actually, synonyms. If yours well of patience is not deep enough, perhaps you have purchased wrong transceiver.

It also appears that "frustration" and "patience" are the filtered keywords in EE, because on experience EE have stopped answering posts containing those words years ago :)

Roadmap? First time asked about 9 years ago, never ever been published and there is a doubt that one exisits even for internal use. Searching forum and browsing EE's youtube videos you may squeeze out some "virtually expected dates". Something like "ESDR3 "'common' release is targeted to end of '21 - start of '22" and "ESDR3 Pro version is 2-3 month later after 'common'". Does it help? (do not think so). And do not ask for the feature list of "release", please :)

There are rumours of a new version of JTDX in the pipeline. See the post below in the SunPro2 DX forum. Scroll to the halfway point.

Yep, I saw Goran were sending it via private email.

I am usually looking right into JTDX source code here: https://github.com/jtdx-project/jtdx
Nothing there yet. Whatever outside of it might be just private (even dev) builds (you need to ask Goran).

As I have mentioned earlier, JTDX team has same challenge as everyone using TCI at this stage - backward compatibility. ESDR2 is TCI 1.4 (simple example is DRIVE:arg1;). ESDR3 (latest alpha) is TCI 1.6, and documentation is just out (2 days ago) - has DRIVE:arg1,arg2. What it means - setting up power output level in ESDR2 and ESDR3 via TCI is different and not cross-compatible. Hence, if you want to support both ESDR versions in your soft (JTDX or any other), you have to decide the way you doing it. It requires time and testing. I would rather wait for official release from guys.

Wow, so much negativity. I've only been here on the forum for less than a 1 year since owner the SunSDR DX2. Also, I don't post much here either. I thought I had made a vaild suggestion, but OK it appears not. :D

I'm happy with my purchase of the SunSDR DX2, thats not in question. The frustration is that the current alpha is almost good enough to move over to completely... I'm definately not following all of the other idiots that buy transciever based on theoretical tests made in a lab by Rob Sherwood. For me the big-rigs are dead but thats another subject for discussion another time. When you like your particular boat anchor. I mean no offence. Each to there own!

Now programming, that I can do in 5 languages, yes, I'm old. Please don't cry here regarding software development. When done correctly, fixes should be easily implemented without impacting other functions, its called "encapsulation". There are a lot of nice terms in OOP programming languages which I'm assuming they both use (SunSDR and JTDX).

Anyway, another big release just dropped so my wish might be fulfilled. So I might have everything I need.

Finally, I'll take a look at MSHV as suggested along with the videos, cheers.

Negativity? Not at all, Neil. If the friendly sarcasm, which I have put around my maxim of "patience" is not readable, I will next time use the "smile" at the end.
I just tried to explain you the things how they are.

Happy testing, mate.

P.S. I have no idea who is Rob Sherwood and this is not a joke. And the way you have described, make me to believe that I do not want to now who he is :)

Kudos! Rob I think is paid by some of the vendors at times, some things he post. I know when I used his list I got bitten both times. I have since added a rule to router to block his page.

No problems here :D. A smiley would help sometimes.

I’m loving my SDR. This last update looks great.

Cheers and thanks for all the suggestions.

I have tried this but its not working for me... You need to extract it and them place it in the MSHV folder etc...

But I can't find anyway to adjust the TCI output???
