Hi,

I am an experienced expertsdr2 user and I am thinking of moving to Expertsdr3.

I have downloaded the latest version of ExpertSDR3 and I think it looks to work well - I believe it requires a firmware upgrade and was prompted to do, I didn't as I noticed that if I did that SunSDR2 would not work any more and so its a one way journey.

Is this true ?

SunSdr3 seems to run OK (and I'm quite impressed!!) without the firmware upgrade although it has the audio output problem for anything other than 32Khz - what else am I missing?

Is there any way to go back to SunSDR2 if I upgrade the firmware? eg can I put the old version of firmware back ?

I'd really like to use SunSDR3 but would really like to try it first without closing the door on using SunSDR2.

What are people's views? - I'd be really interested in peoples views and advice :D

Yes, you can go back to SDR2 from SDR3, and vice versa, it will request a FW update for each version as required.
I go back and forth between 2 & 3 without any issues.

Hi Tom,

Thank You - that's great news and just what I wanted to know

One other question - I cannot see where to alter / config the CAT control for SDR3 - where is it ? - I don't need this for JTDX I can use TCI (which works great !!) BUT I do need it for Log4OM and other program controls.

Am I missing it somewhere - I don't seem to be able to find it !!

Thanks

Chris

LOG4OM works with TCI as well you just need to set it in LOG4OM settings

Chris,

Have you watched the Video by Rick N8SDR:
EESDR V3 Release 13 The Good, Bad, Fluff and Bluff! Sorry AUDIO Level get loud after into!

You can find it on YouTube or here in the Forum under "New Updates, Page 1"
Unfortunately, that's the Beta version, we currently only have the Alpha available, but it should show where the items your looking for are located, assuming they are included in the alpha version?

Hi Tom,

I will take a look - hopefully it will give me the clue, log4om was the real problem and thanks to G0WZL I now know it works with TCI and so that solves my problem initally - Now just to get N1MM contest logging working with it and I'm home and dry !!!

What a great forum :D

Hi Tom,

I had a look at the video and it was very interesting.

Once I realised that you need to use RadioSync to emulate a CAT port from TCI for those programs that don't support it such as N1MM then I was home and dry.

The only thing I found was to make sure that I used 'localhost' and port number rather than the IP address of the SunSDRDX unit - and I got Log4OM working straight away.

I upgraded to version 3 as a trial and used it together with N1MM contest software (using RadioSync) and Log4OM for logging and it all worked perfectly for a 50 Mhz contest (IARU region 1) over the last two days.

Version 3 seems very stable to me at the moment, and using it on JTDX it seems to have a lot less audio loss (if any) than version 2

Overall it's great! and so I am not going to go back to version 2 unless I find a major issue (which i think is unlikely) - I look forward to any further updates :yahoo:

Thanks for all the help and advice - hopefully I can help someone else sometime with this information!
