I was keying Mic2 (a TENQ MH-31A8J MIC Speaker for YAESU) on AM to transmit the carrier.

Where did you see that SSB mode is on MIC 1?

Thanks, Tim

In the picture you posted the GREEN MODE TAB for USB ( Upper Side Band is Highlighted meaning your in the SSB mode) not AM at least when you posted the picture shown in the post above- showing no power output ( yes your on MIC2) so not sure were that came about , I think that picture is were he was referring to the SSB mode
Please do not email me and ask for help I no longer will be part of this, If I could delete /remove my profile I would do so.

Thanks everyone for the help!

I do understand that SSB does not have a carrier, and 99% of my contacts since being licensed 10 years ago have been PSK or other digital modes. Getting back to SSB now and learning a lot. I have Tune level at 50% and Drive at 100%. I do see my audio modulating as I speak and the audio moving on the ExpertSDR meter as I speak. My voice is naturally very soft, so I my next configuration will be to play with the speech processing to improve my audio. I have watched Visily's YouTube video and imported his parameters as a starting point, and then adding some punch to my voice. I also have a replacement for my Heil Pro Set headset on order, so that should be much better than this cheap Yaesu hand MIC. Then, I'll get on air to make a QSO and get some feedback.

Great help in this forum! Loving the capabilities of this new radio so far!

Tim

We were all new at some point in the hobby
I think your in California , so 40 or perhaps 20 would be best if we were to try and do a over the air audio setup (help adjustment session) which I would be happy to do if conditions work between us.

my email is good on QRZ and there is a lot of good help on the forum.
glad your making some progress-

and Yes that hand mike doesn't do the radio justice
The Heil should be a nice improvement- you probably also see a better level of power out with it as well
in meantime try adding a couple db. of gain to your mic input or in the processor section turn on (enable) the Pre Processor and add the following
10 ms Attack
10 ms Release
Type Mode 2 or 3
Input Boost add 2 or 3 dB

this should help your voice peaks and keep your power output up more consistently - just watch so you don't over drive the the radio the MIC level is usually good around a few dB before up to the o mark I usually shoot for -5 to -3 and may clip every once in a while just a tad over 0 on a plosive if I'm right up on the mic.

Thanks Rick. If I can't raise my Elmer who now lives in Florida, I will take you up on your offer. I'll try those suggestions.

The GUI picture resolution was not high enough and thought on the top right Mic was on 1, but it must be a 2. Same applies though, there is no modulation on the panorama so there will be no output power. But I think by raising Tune you have it working now so all good. The SDR DX here produces 100W+ on key down HF bands, they are very good radios.

Thanks Erik. That was my fault. I was having difficulty in getting my attachment in the post. When I realized that the resolution was too big to post, I did a quick, but sloppy re-size resulting in the blurry image. Next time, I'll slow down and do a better job of editing and reviewing my screenshots before I post. The Tune setting definitely helped, thank you!

Thanks for checking in Rick. Things are looking good here. I got my Pro Set headset the other day and I have worked a little on my TX Proc settings and your settings did help, thanks. I'm hearing a little distortion, so I may pull back on the Mic gain further or move the mic boom a little further away. I'm about ready to get on air, but life is interfering at the moment between work and some family issues. As far as this Power/SWR thread goes, we can consider it solved. When my time opens up, I'll reach out to my Elmer friend and/or you to schedule some time for audio feedback.

As nobody answered ... USB highlighted (green) next to CW, thats why SSB identified...
