Dear All,

Can I use a Neumann broadcast microphone BCM 104 with the SunSDR2 DX.
Can I put in input MIC1? I know it uses phantom power 48V.
Or do I need a interface to connect it with the DX?

Thank you all for your kind feedback.

A technically flawless solution for using a studio microphone is if you connect the microphone via a USB audio interface, such as the M2 from MOTU.
This audio interface supports ASIO and works perfectly with the Expert software (select Microphone PC)
The loudspeakers and headphones can also be connected to the M2. See at: motu.com/en-us/
In addition, this solution offers latency-free listening in the headphones of the microphone audio during transmission.
Just one of many possibilities ...

I agree with Hubert 100%, I have a Motu M2 myself among others and it is my favorite USB interface.

I wouldn’t bother with Mic1, if anything use Mic2 but you will still need an outboard mic pre-amp for that microphone and then a line level to mic level matching device like a W2IHY I-Box to feed into Mic2, which doesn’t make a lot of sense if you don’t have other uses for the microphone.

My radio has a feed both ways, MicPC via the USB as well as Mic2 via an I-Plus interface with rack gear as the pre-amps simply because I own all of it and use the mic for multiple rigs and purposes via a switching network. The audio quality is cleanest via MicPC for both the Sun and also my Anan.

AND FYI

MIC1 is only 3 volts or so, any decent condenser is going to need more and preferably 48V

to other interfaces that work well are:

The XAIR series which is essentially a DAW in a box

and the Sterling H224 both of which I have had no issues, coming from them into a DI box and into MIC2
Please do not email me and ask for help I no longer will be part of this, If I could delete /remove my profile I would do so.

Dear All,

So my aim to the following setup:
Yamaha monitor speakers connected to the MOTO M2
Neumann microphone connected to the MOTO M2 (48v phantom power)
MOTU M2 connected to my IMAC with USB.

Perhaps a silly question,.. but do I need a special cable form the MOTU M2 to the MIC2 SunSdr DX to get the signal from the Neumann to the DX?
Or will it get the voice signal from the USB cable from the MOTU M2?

Thank you all kindly for your feedback.

No, you don't need an additional audio cable.
The microphone signal is digitized in the MOTU and then forwarded to your IMAC via USB.
Unable to display Google Map.

* * * But you have to select "Microphone PC" in ESDR3!

In the attached pictures you can see the necessary settings on my Windows 10 PC.
I don't know what it looks like on a MAC PC, but it is certainly very similar.

Sorry - the Google Map in the last post was sent by mistake.
That's why a picture was not attached in the attachment, which I am now adding in the attachment.

Hi Hubert,

Just a question;
I have everything connected to the MOTU M2 (Headphones, Mic and monitor speakers)
I have sound output on the monitor speakers and headphone from the expertsdr 3 software.

And I have also connected the Neumann microphone with the 48v on. Also button MON on.
But I do not hear the MIC on the monitor speakers. But I see on the MOTU that it get signal in.

Do you perhaps know a setting that I need to change?
I have everything on Mic. PC.

Kind regards, Tim

You need to select the "Microphone PC" as your input. You also need to select the appropriate input device from the PC. This would be something like "WASAPI: In 1-2 (MOTU M Series)" depending on which input you have it connected to.

And now you can install DAW for example Abeltone live and open completely new possibilities(or can of worms :hahaha: ).
You can process the audio, whatever way you want by using VST plugins.
How do you VooDoo?

Dear All,
Thank you for your feedback. I have found the error,.....
The problem is in within the software ExpertSDR 3.

The MOTU M2 is working fine with my IMAC also with DAW. It gives a nice output on speakers and headphone.
So the issue must be within the software ExpertSDR 3.

To check this I have installed ExpertSDR 2
And yes! It gets the signals from the motu M2 and is showing on the waterfall.
The strange thing is that within the ExpertSDR 3 software you can select the MOTU M2 for input and output. But it gives no MIC signals through......

I hope this can be fixed in the next update?
Now I can not use the MOTU M2 setup with my IMAC
And I don't want to go back to ExpertSDR 2 ;-)

Hi Tim,

I have a MOTO M4 in use. When I select "M4" as microphone and speaker in ExpertSDR3 (Update 11), I have exactly the same problem as you.

I use the "AKG HSC-271" headset. The microphone is connected via XLR to "IN 1" and the headphones to the right headphone jack of the MOTU M4.

The headphones work fine. I can see the level of the microphone on the MOTU M4. However, nothing arrives in ExpertSDR3.

The "MIC PC" also does not work for me in ExpertSDR3 Update 11 when selecting a different speaker or a different microphone driver.

Best regards

Hi Mathias,

I got it all working with the info form KB2UKA. See link on Youtube.

So;
Motu M2
Loopback
LogicPro

But it would be nice if the expertsdr 3 software could see/work with the MOTU interface directly.
