Good Morning,
Are there memory limitations to the Expert MB1?
The reason I ask that is because it seems that both the I5 and I7 models only have 16 GB of Memory.
Can the MB1 accommodate 32 GB of memory?
The reason I ask, is that if one purchased the basic model which in the USA is 16 GB,, wouldn't 32 GB be better?
Also as a side question, is the the SSD drive the only hard drive that the computer has, or does it have a regular hard drive along with the SSD drive?
Thanks for your help/explanations.

Hi, Mark.
1. MB1 basic model is 8GB, NSI offers MB1 with 16GB in a limited amount.
2. There is a GIGABYTE MDH11HI motherboard in the MB1. On the GIGABYTE website, you can find that this motherboard supports up to 32 GB - b2b.gigabyte.com/Embedded-Computing/MDH11HI-rev-10#sp
We haven't tested it.
3. There is an SSD inside the MB1, no additional HDD.
MB1 specification is described on our website and in the user manual - eesdr.com/en/products-en/transceivers-en/mb1-en

Rome,

So there is a new motherboard in the latest MB1 model? Correct me if I am wrong but as far as I remember 16GB was maximum RAM on mine. If so, will I be able to change the motherboard to accommodate more ram? Are there any other changes?

To Mark, you can of course connect an extra disc to one of the USB3 ports on the back. Go get the MB1, you will not regret it!

Best regards

Hi, Hans.
1. The motherboard model in the latest batch is identical to the 3rd batch - MDH11HI, you can find the list here, page 160, 161:
eesdr.com/images/Document/MB1/MB1_User_Manual_ENG.pdf

2. As I told Mark: "On the GIGABYTE website, you can find that this motherboard supports up to 32 GB - b2b.gigabyte.com/Embedded-Computing/MDH11HI-rev-10#sp
We haven't tested it."

I have no idea why, but I thought 16GB was maximum. So I have ordered 2x16GB now and will test it, a lot of RAM is always good :D
www.crucial.com/usa/en/ct204864bf160b These modules was actually much cheaper here in Norway.

If this works, I will have two 8GB RAM modules for sale.

I know I have not commented recently to everything that people have said.
But if Expert is going to be testing a new motherboard and using 32GB memory I wonder if I should wait to purchase the MB1 until that comes out? Or, at least until they start using the enhanced motherboard. Just a thought.
I was wondering if anyone operated the CQWW SSB 2018 this past weekend with their MB1?
I operated with my 990S and had over 600 q's and 540K in points.

Hi, Mark.
We are not going to test new motherboard for MB1, at least at this point, we have no intentions to do that.
Please wait for Hans's comments regarding the 32GB RAM.

Mark - FYI - I did operate CQ WW SSB this past weekend with my MB1. Mostly low bands and 160 especially. It beats the pants off my Icom 7800 due to the superior filtering. The transmit audio is also superior for being not just heard but also supremely readable in the QRM and noise of low band SSB contesting when needing multipliers from DX.

Gentlemen,

32GB RAM installed now in my MB1! What I immediately notice is that decoding in WSJT-X and JT-Alert is much faster than before. I'll be back for more info when I have operated the radio a little more.

Hans,
Good Deal on the 32GB of Ram. I see that you are also using the I7 Processor.
It would be interesting to see the speed increase with the I5 processor using 32GB of memory.
