Hi - I would like to connect the CAT to both COM1, the physical serial port, and to an internal virtual serial port, so that I can run two programs simultaneously, one on the MB1 computer and one on an external computer. Both require access to the CAT. I have tried various combinations of things using the Eterlogic VSPE program, but have not succeeded. Has anyone succeeded in doing this, in which case what is the magic setup? - best regards - Peter

Peter - it is all in the UMA.

Please see page 11. Whilst the definition shown is to connect an external amp + internal software, it is an example only and an external computer (or any device needing CAT) can be substituted for the target of the hard wire link from COM 1.

Hi Erik - yes, I did try that, but without success. After your last post, I investigated further, and found that I could make it work if I used Baud rate 19200, but with some long delays in updating the external program on Com1.I had been using 57600 (didn't work) and 9600 (didn't work). I suspect that the problem actually lies in the way I am dealing with the serial port in my external program, so I am investigating further. Thanks for your help once again - best regards - Peter

FYI (in case it helps), there are other ways of doing it.

CAT to the MB1 serial port need not go via a virtual COM port. Using SDC (PA Tab) utilises TCI to supply CAT data from ESDR2. Therefore baud rate, or emulation of it, is irrelevant up to that point. Setting 19200 in SDC and at the target end will work reliably.

Another way is to dispense with the hard wire null modem cable between the two, again use SDC but this time at both ends. The section "Connection COM port - Network - COM port" explains the configuration. The networking cable is a normal ethernet line.

Note though that nothing is better than having everything just on the MB1 computer.

Erik.
