Hi,

I see that the new prime model has a GA-IMB370TN board and a I7-9700 processor. I'm wondering if it's possible to replace the board in MB1 with this of course and replace the back panel as I see that the layout of the connectors is different. This would be interesting for all older MB1 models because you never know when the MDH11HI motherboard which is no longer available on the market, may stop working.

Thanks,

Good point. It's made me think that perhaps I should keep an eye on the GA-IMB370TN motherboards to buy a "backup" when they start to get very cheap immediately prior to being discontinued - just in case mine has a problem in the future. Might setup a saved-search on ebay.

Hi.

Is there some news about this topic?
I have a MB1 with a MDH11HI motherboard, and I would like to upgrade if possible.

Hi, I would be interested in another direction, namely AMD, where graphics performance can be stronger.
I know it's expensive, but is it like that? www.bicker.de/en/d3713-v4

There’s two rear plates on the MB1, if you remove the outermost plate it opens up so any motherboard of the same size will fit. You can just leave the MB1 without this plate, or make some new holes that will fit the new motherboard. I will for sure do this if I need to upgrade. There might be other considerations as well, internal connectors etc.

Thank you Hans.
It would be nice if all of us could help to check the possibility to upgrade to the new motherboard.
The more informations we get, the easier it will be to do it; "If it is possible"!!

I upload some files with photo and specifications of each motherboard. Source: gigabyte website.
You can find those files online on the website of gigabyte, but to make things easier I upload them here.

Work in progress..

Tomas,

The threads was a little worn out when I bought it used. And I do use N type connectors all over in the shack, so I would have changed it anyway :jokingly:

If you search my posts in here you will see how I did it, it’s fairly easy.

Michel, thank you! I will have a look at the different boards. I guess there might be others that will do the job as well. I have seen a photo of the new rear plate, but I could not find it. EE might be able to supply the rear plate so we can change it if we use the new original motherboard.

Thank you Hans.

Can we get a diagram(drawing) with all the connections from the mainboard to the rtx inside the MB1?

Gentlemen,

I sent an email to Roman about this. Here is his reply:

Dear Hans.

It's impossible to just replace a motherboard, there are several complications, you'll need:
1. A new adapter for USB connectors (adapters from a motherboard to USB connectors, they are different in different batches),
2. A new adapter for LVDS display (different in different batches),
3. A new adapter for the wiring cable (different in different batches),
4. A new rear panel with new motherboard connectors outlay.

Internal power supply is enough for i9, we've installed i9-9900 for some custom MB1 Prime units.

Roman Volchkov

So the rear panel is no problem for me, I’ll just cut out a hole the size of the innermost panels hole. And I’ve written to him if there are commercially available adapter’s for the cables he mention.

Is there any guidance on an option to upgrade the CPU and memory on the existing motherboard as an easier route than replacing the motherboard and building/sourcing new cables?
