Hello, I would like to connect an Ultrabeam to my SUNSDR2PRO via CAT. Unfortunately the SUNSDR does not have a physical CAT interface. To connect further programs (Log ..) I use the software COM0COM. With its RCU-06 control unit, Ultrabeam offers a 9-pin SUB D socket (data in). How can I feed the CAT commands from the SUNSDR into the RCU-06. I tried an RS-232 to USB adapter, but to no avail.

Thanks for Help!

Mario

Hello Mario,
I have no remote controlled antenna. I guess, however, that SDC (Software Defined Connectors) sdc.qrz.ru is the tool you need. Download and install SDC, and the english language user manual, along with Expert User manual Addendum by EI4KF, where you will find what you are looking for on page 35/36. www.dropbox.com/s/lhvwwuyuxpoq7gs/Expert%20Electronics%20Addendum.pdf?dl=0

Hi Mario,

I am digging out this old topic since i have the same issue as you had earlier this year. I am trying to connect my Ultra Bearm RCU-06 to ExpertSDR2 via SDC (latest version) using the RigEmulator as shown by S58WW but even after carefully reviewing the bauds, ports, etc there is no reaction. How is it going on your side now? Any suggestion please?

Thanks

Hello Erwann,
unfortunately it doesn't work for me either. I tried the SDC for some time, unfortunately without success. I will probably have to use the expensive Eltima software (www.eltima.com/products/vspdxp/?gclid=EAIaIQobChMI6YeT86b89AIVCJ3VCh02fwDiEAAYASAAEgJh5vD_BwE). I think that in the new year I will have a little more time to solve the problem. With the IC-7300 and the C-IV port, everything works perfectly. unfortunately not with the SUNSDR2PRO.

A Merry Christmas from Northern Germany.

Hi Mario.

I have found a way to use my Ultrabeam RCU-06 with ExpertSDR2 (probably works with V3) and S58WW is correct but for that you have to use the RS232 not the USB plug on the controller.

I bought a USB to RS232 adapter to connect my PC (com11 here) to the DATA IN plug in the Controller. Then i used the TCI function in SDC software enabling the "Rig Emulator" setup as a Kenwood transceiver to match the CAT "kenwood" in the RCU-06. It works fine!

- be sure to use the same band data etc
- enable ESDR to start SDC when you open the Expert software.

RS232 pins 2 and 3 should be twisted on the cable ....it is writen in RCU-06 manual....
I dont own Ultrabeam antenna, but I was using microkeyer II with SUNSDR2pro with cable for K3 :D

It is nice that you have it working....

Hi Pibo,

Thanks for your input. It is working great without touching anything in the standard USB->RS232 but of course does not mean it is the way to go on the long term. I have checked the RCU-06 Manual and there is no mention of the PIN Switch. I am not using the Remote interface just sending CAT from ESDR2 to the RCU-06. Do you have a scan/link of that page please?

Hi Pibo,

Ok i see what you mean now but in fact since i am using a USB (in my PC) to DB9 (Controller) i don't think this inversion is relevant and actually my CAT is working great with this standard cable so it should be fine. The inversion is for when the Kenwood radio is directly connected to the controller via two DB9.

As I said erlier I was experimenting with microkeyer II and cable for K3..
I had to add aditional RS232 cable with twisted pair 2 and 3 to get my phisical port working with TCI and RIG-emulator in SDC.
It is still working. It is bigger chalange to make same configuration working on UBUNTU. :music:
