Hi,

I have sold my SunSDR2Pro last year because I could not use it at my loaction due to heavy electric fence line noise (pulse noise).

The AGC always responded to the noise and interupted the reception for a few seconds. Only cure was to use manual gain control, which is very inconvenient.

My FLEX6400 or AirSpy HF+ Discovery never had a problem with that.

Did you work on that issue in the meantime and solved the problem?

Thomas, the new Version 3 software (Alpha...but very good) has an excellent NB with adjustable threshold and pulse settings. There is also now an auto AGC feature which maintains a S/N which you set.
So all in all, you may find things have moved on a lot since last year...

Hi Paul,

thank you for your information.

But my question was related to the AGC. NB usually distort signals and a SNR judgement by AGC software sounds a bit too good to be usefull under any circumstances.

I am mostly doing weak signal reception on the low bands , just above the noise level.

Maybe someone has tested both software versions regarding pulse noise behaviour.

Thank you anyway,

For me the NB in V3 does a better job or getting rid of Powerline noise - vs that in V2
I did a video on some of this in an earlier alpha release - perhaps that will give you some clue

That said NOISE issues depend on the source and type as you know- but overall yes I would say the NB in V3 is much better to that of V2
Please do not email me and ask for help I no longer will be part of this, If I could delete /remove my profile I would do so.

Hi Rick,

thank you for the nice video.

However it does not cover the problem I am facing here with the electric fences triggering the AGC. Maybe I have to get agian one of the SunSDRs to see myself.

Hi Thomas,

I have been using V2 for about 2 years and switched to V3 about a month ago. I live on a farm and have several electric fencers around me including my own. With V2 I could never eradicate my own fencer, BUT with V3 I can adjust it so that I no longer hear it and the IMD is also pretty much the same without the NB on i.e. no distortion.

So for me V3 is absolutely superb. My previous rigs were FT1000D, FT1000MP, FT5000MP, KX3 and Flex 6300. None of them were as good as the SUNSDR2DX, especially regarding the NB. The nearest was the FT5000MP.

The new V3 is so good in so many other ways as well.

A big thank you to Roman and his team.

Roman,

You mention an AUTO AGC and setting the S/N.
Where do I find these on the GUI?
I haven't found them yet?

Found them.
Just Rt clk on AGC and they pop right up.

Hi Andy,

thank you for the information.

Wheras I am still not sure that V3 is okay for my location since you still use the NB for elimination of the fence noise.

With my other SDRs like Flexradio 6400 and Airspy HF+ the fence noise is barely seen (AGC is not reacting on it) and almost not heard and I don´t use any NB or other noise reduction.

I am sensitive to even slight distortion by software artefacts which you have in any NB I know.

If I find a used Sunsdr unit I will try V3 for sure.
