ExpertSDR software is a new product at the SDR-technique. There are simultaneously implemented traditional facilities of SDR programs, such as viewing of receiving signal spectrum and the spectrum, which is expanded in time (waterfall), and new unique functions, such as “Time Machine”. All those facilities are described below. It should be mentioned that ExpertSDR is developing and will be provided with new functions. Interface will also become more comfortable and interaction with user will become better.

System requirements to a PC:

Minimal:
Processor Pentium IV 3GHz
RAM 1024 MB
Embedded sound card 16/24 bit 48/96 kHz with MME or ASIO drivers support
Embedded or external video card with RAM 64 MB, OpenGL v.1.2 support
OS Windows XP

Recommended:
Processor Intel Core 2 Duo (and better)
RAM 2048 MB
Embedded or external sound card 24 bit 96/192 kHz with ASIO drivers support
External video card with RAM 256 MB, OpenGL v.1.2 (and higher) support
OS Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7 (32 bites version OS is preferable)

ExpertSDR can be downloaded from our ftp-account.

ExpertSDR software for SunSDR transceiver 10 May 2012 07:01 #2

Hi, nice software indeed!

Some questions also:

Is ExpertSDR based on PowerSDR code or all new software?

Will you support QRP2000 alike si570 USB synthesizers?

I experienced big decrease of CPU load when using GSDRDX (GenesisSDR DirectX) version instead regular GSDR software. Can you use similar approach to reduce CPU load or use already?

In SunSDR2 the CW is formed in FPGA (like QS1E) or in ExpertSDR software? If in software how is the keying delay?

SunSDR2 is very interesting transceiver! How it is compared to QS1R/QS1E, HPSDR Hermes, ZS-1 etc.? They share similar technology (?) but SunSDR2 seems to be most complete of them. Only software for SunSDR2 will be ExpertSDR?

Thank you!

Mart

Hi Mart!

1. We developed ExpertSDR for supporting our devices like SunSDR and SunSDR2 that’s why it doesn’t support other transceivers (like with SI570 sinthesizer and others). But ExpertSDR is free software and can be used with any SDR radios which works with soundcards.
2. ExpertSDR uses a DttSP library and a portaudio library. All the others are developed by us.
3. ExpertSDR uses the OpenGL and computation resource of a graphic card. Due to a CPU load depends on a type of the graphic card and a type of the CPU.
4. SunSDR2 firmware and software are developing at the moment that’s why we don’t publish the characteristics for now. SunSDR2 can form the CW by MCU in hardware (CW hardware mode). Also the CW can be formed by software, if we use remote control. In hardware CW mode delays between pressing the key and signal in the air will be less than 8 ms. In the software CW mode the delay is approximately 15-25 ms. The start of sales is planned on the 1st of July.
5. SunSDR2 will be supported by ExpertSDR from 2.2.0.0 version. Support via other software, like SDR-MAX and e.t.c., is considered in this moment. First versions of ExpertSDR will support SunSDR2 with restrictions (for example, maximum width of spectrum is 80 kHz, one RX channel). We are also developing the ExpertSDR II for full support of SunSDR2 features (wide spectrum width, more receiving channels and others) and SunSDR will be also supported in Windows OS. The ExpertSDR II will be available approximately in September and will work in Windows and Linux.

There are many features in the SunSDR2 like:
• Small size 160x160x40
• Ethernet 100 Mbps interface
• WiFi-to-Ethernet module inside (option)
• DUC/DDC technology
• Independent RX DDC channel
• Independent TX DUC channel
• Full duplex in HF band
• BDR > 119 dB in HF and >114 dB in VHF
• HF RX bandwidth 1-65 MHZ
• VHF RX bandwidth 95-148 MHZ
• HF output power – 20W
• VHF output power – 10W
• RF ADC sample rate – 160 MHz
• ALC input
• External Control connector with 10 open collector switches
• Yaesu MH-31 microphone connector for dynamic microphone
• PTT and CW Key connectors
• There are Audio ADC 24 bit and DAC 24 bit
• There are electrets microphone and headphone connectors
• PLL for reference input 10MHz (option)
• DC input 12 … 16 V up to 5A

We don't compare SunSDR2 with other transceivers.

Best regards,
Vitaly

We haven’t met the deadline of the end of February with the new release. Main work has been made and we fulfilled 75-80% of all the work under the new release of ExpertSDR2.
Today we have:
1. Full rebuild of ExpertSDR2 software. Global work inside ExpertSDR2 has been made. It can’t be seen outside but it was made for future software improvement.
1.1 Second receiver inside the panadapter(like in the ExpertSDR1) has been added. Formally SunSDR2 has 4 receivers — two receivers for each independent panadapter.
1.2 You can see external changes of ExpertSDR2 software(see the screenshot).
a) ZOOM marker has been moved to the frequency scale between panadapter and waterfall. Now if you push the mouse wheel on frequency scale, you set center of ZOOMing;
b) Buttons of VFOA-VFOB control (B<A, B>A, B<>A) have been activated;
c) TX buttons for each VFO have been activated. Also the same buttons were added to receiver's filters on panadapter for each receiver (top side of filter);
d) on the top side of each filter you can see the current frequency;
e) on the top side of each receiver's filter you can see the current received signal power in S scale;
f) when you tune frequency with the mouse wheel your filter moves on the panadapter. Before we had static filters on panadapter and signals were moving instead.

1.3 All panadapter's settings are saved, as well as all other setting which could not be saved before.
1.4 Each microphone has independent settings for MIC Gain and for Equalizer(TX EQ).
1.5 You can create profiles with the following parameters:
a) mode;
b) AGC;
c) frequency step;
d) filter width;
e) DSP, Compressor.

2. External devices are controlled through Ext.Ctrl.
3. Work of receiver's AGC has been improved, as well as microphone's AGC. MIC AGC switch On/Off was added
4. Bandscope with bandwidth up to 80MHz was created (bandscope width can be changed). Now it is in test mode.
5. Break-IN in the CW mode is in progress. CW mode will work with both transceivers of SunSDR series (1 or 2).
6. External panel E-Coder control is in progress.
7. Compressor function is in progress.

At the present moment we have big work with the driver for SunSDR2 and SunSDR1 transceivers (do not confuse with Windows drivers). They are special software blocks situated between the SunSDR(2) hardware and the ExpertSDR2 core. New functions have been added to the SunSDR2 driver and a new driver for SunSDR1 transceiver has been added, because we did not support it in the ExpertSDR2 software before.

Thank you for your waiting and understanding.

Hallo,

(If OK I will collect some ideas and suggestions in this thread to support your work)

1. Antenna Switching
from my point of view you can only switch Ant3/Ant3 via Options. Better
a) A Button on the front page
b) automatic association matrix of Ant with Band (a have WARC Dipol and a Yagi for 40/20/15/10)

2. Ergonomic - Keys for Functions
- for some function a hot key is necessary (MOX for TX/RX-Switch) or useful (A<->B) switch
- i available i did not find teh description

3. is a SWR meter available?

4. Zoom function
- I did not find (easy) zoom functions for waterfall or bandscope

5. General documentation and help files

found the SWR meter now - CQing in RTTY gave me time. The S meter is switched to SWR when transmitting - very intuitive.

First RTTY-QSO done with EI4KE with 20 Watts and Antenne to south.
