No probably not band data cable because the common connection is CAT/PTT. But surely they can make it for you? They sell the radio and the amp after all.

I just saw another email from Gary and he told me to contact a guy who may be able to do it. Unfortunately, he didn't include the link so I've had email him back. Fingers crossed, somebody will be able to make something up for me.

Yes fingers crossed - I am surprised they cannot make a band data cable for the SunSDR DX, after all they are the official EE dealer for the UK. If no luck with this other guy, I would email Roman direct at EE and ask him about it.

Hi Penn
Did you get the link in the end from ML&S to get a cable made up ?? I've seen cables on eBay but not the ones you are needing I've sent the Makers a message 1 I've had back saying NO they don't make then just waiting for 1 more reply, If ROMAN see's this message can you post WHO can make or who has the cables for sale. I've had a quick look to see if I could message Roman but cannot see how to do it on this board ??
So if anyone knows anyone selling or making the BAND-data cable for the SunSDR2-DX to a Expert 1K-fa please let us know

Roman is by direct email: Roman Volchkov <This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.>

I doubt you will find a ready made cable but you could ask Hamcables UK to see whether they will make it for you. Their shop is at www.hamcables.co.uk/amp-cables. It is after all only a standard HT15 cable with the pin outs per the respective manuals for radio and amp. Not easy for the likes of us but I see no reason why any interface cable maker could not get it done PDQ.

Erik.

You are welcome. Billy is a good guy - one of his cables I bought once did not work (not his fault, bad info from Ultrabeam) and it was no hassle returning it for a refund. £42.50 undercuts ML&S CAT/PTT cable, and that is far fewer wires than a band data cable, so yes not cheap but better than some and you can be sure it will get the job done. The SPE band data table is in the latest UMA, or Roman can supply it, if needed.

Excellent! I've got his web address from Gary so I shall also give him a shout in the morning and order one of those cables. So, we need 2 cables?

One cable for band data and you can optionally add 3/4 more wires X8 PTT, Ground and +12V DC (for external fan if you need). The optional 4th wire is if you want to thermostatically control fan on/off. If there is not enough detail in the UMA, ask Roman and he will doubtless explain it all for you.

Sorry guys, I should have come back earlier and updated you. I've got the cable now but I haven't had a chance to connect the SPE to the amplifier. Just remind me, the cable plugs into cat control on the amplifier and then into the radio. But there's a little plug, that's the PTT, isn't it?

HI Penn
You have the 2 plugs 1 for the Expert AMP and the other end for the SubSDR Radio the plug on the end you could use for the ALC but Don't use it at all, is that your first lead from billy or your second ??? I had to have a new one from him and everything works now.

Yes, this is my first lead from Billy.

Okay, so just plug each and into the radio and the cat on the amplifier but don't insert the plug into the radio?

What puzzles me is how the amplifier will follow the radio as you tune. With my ICOM 7800, I can hear the amplifier clicking as it moves onto a different segment on the band. You have to use the ATU on each segment. Will I have to do this manually?

Hi, I just watched your video on setting up the radio with the amplifier, very helpful indeed, thank you.

I do have a couple of questions though. You didn't mention anything about the ATU on the amplifier. I'm assuming that we just use that as part instructed in the SPE manual? I.e., tune each band before you use the amplifier.

Also, in the settings where you preset your output power, does this mean the radio well only put out the power that you have set it to? What if you put the drive at full? What if I don't want to use the amplifier but still want to use the full power of the radio, do I have to go into the settings and change at all each time?

Hi Penn
What I do is go to each band I want to use and with what ever power I have set on the tune power about 12watts I tune up with the ATU on the AMP then I'm ready to use the AMP on that band.
The lead you have from Billy doesn't power the radio ON so you will not have any signals to your radio, so if you want to use just the Radio with it's full power I think you would have to put another antenna on the A3 port of the radio, with our AMP there is NO bypass for the AMP so you can use the antennas so I think you are stuck with useing the AMP or using A3 on the RADIO with another antenna.

If you need a chat Penn e-mail me at my E-mail address on QRZ with your phone number and have a chat that way if needed.
