TOPIC: MB1 SDR Tranceiver

MB1 SDR Tranceiver 06 Feb 2016 16:21 #1

Hi guys and gals...I have today ordered my new MB1 SDR Tranceiver (High End) I look forward to receiving it in the near future
I will be interested to know of any pro's or cons to this Unit even though it is just going out on general release...although not my usual move (I usually await at least one year into production to make sure and know of teething problems) this time I am in with both feet
Starting this feed will (fingers crossed ) bring out the early issue's (if any) :write:

I'm interested in an Expert MB1 transceiver, but have a few questions.

1. Does the TX cover the 5 MHz band? If so, between what limits? Are band limits (for TX inhibit) user-adjustable?

2. Does it have Pure Signal pre-distortion? If so, can that be used with a 0 dBm feed from the output of a linear amplifier ?

3. Is the SSB TX bandwidth adjustable? If so, over what range?

4. If I install Ubuntu on it, and then change my mind, is it possible to reinstall the shipped software from the supplied media without the assistance of a separate Windows PC (which I don't have, being Ubuntu only).

5. Is there a user manual available for download?

6. What is the worst-band-case TX 3rd order IMD figure, wrt PEP at full output?

Richard & Anti

1. The TX does cover the 5 MHz band which you enable in the ExpertSDR2 software. The limits in mine are 5100 - 5500.
2. Pure signal distortion is no yet enabled in the software but is due in a few weeks/months time
3. Yes
I don't know the answers to your other questions I'm afraid.

Concerning the ATU, I was informed that it can tune from 5 ohms to 500 ohms. but is not this wide on all bands

I have news..

ATU will match 15-300 Ohm.
May be more - it's depend on frequency.

Hi,
The MB1 transceiver has some software bugs, and it will fixed in near time. We will release new update within 1-2 weeks with bug fixes. The harware is ok, no any bugs.

Richard,
There are answers on your questions:
1. Yes, 5 MHz band is available. It's covered as in the European BandPlan for the 1 Region.
2. Yes, we have plans about supporting the Predistortion of TX signal. May be in the second part of this year, may be next. Hardware supports it.
3. In the SSB TX is adjustable LOW and High passes. Minimum 10 Hz, Maximum 10 kHz.
4. I'm not sure that Ubuntu will works now. Only Windows fo today.
5. A full User manual will finished in near time, within a few weeks. After finishing it will uploaded to MB1 web-page.
6. About -30 dBc

Yes, it is correct. Lower and Higher frequencies can not be used for wide matching range, but it's depend on real antenna impedance. Also you should know that high mismatch mean that half power will be dissipated in the ATU. 50 Ohm antennas is required.
