TOPIC: Macbook M1 Apple silicon

Macbook M1 Apple silicon 11 Apr 2021 17:31 #1

I greet everyone,

I have a problem with the software on the Macbook Pro with the Apple silicon (M1) processor. ExpertSdr2 works fine, but I have no sound.
Any idea what that might be?
Or it doesn't work on the M1 processor yet ...

Hi, everyone.
I already answered this question in another thread:
Most likely ExpertSDR2 won't work with the M1 chip, though we cannot test it, since we don't have such mac in the office.
First of all M1 chip should be supported by the Qt development environment, which we use for the development of the ExpertSDR.
Only then we can adapt ExpertSDR for operation on M1 chips, Qt officials stated that they plan to support the M1 chip before the end of 2021.
ExpertSDR3 should support M1 chips since it is being developed on Qt6 and supports Metal (Apple video API), though again we cannot confirm it at the moment.

Hi Roman,

ExpertSDR2 works with the M1 chip without problems with Rosseta2 emulation. Even the FW update will be fine. The only problem is that the audio doesn't work. So hopefully it will be solved in the future.
Thanks.

Of course, we'll work on it and fix it if possible.

I have not used the Mac version yet, but I will soon. Can you route the audio through another program like Loopback and have it work on the M1?

Hi, Doug.
As I said, we don't have an M1 notebook, thus cannot test it right now.
Nevertheless, we won't work on the ExpertSDR2 until the official release of the ExpertSDR3.
