Hello team,
for me, the optical changes in 1.3.0 Alpha are not fine. Yes. the interface looks a bit cleaner. But now there is space that isn´t use.
Losing the band and the mode buttons is not acceptable. The new workflow is bad. To change modes or bands I have now to click twice.
To bring a window for the bands up is not a good solution . First it looks ugly because for the window bar it is not possible to intergrate the windows seemless in the interface.
I can not understand, why you change a good things in this way anyone likes.
PLEASE BRING THE THE INTERFACE FROM VERSION 1.2 BACK.

Another thought: Why do you work on new optical views before numerous technical bugs from version 1.2 are still present. We, the customers, can wait for month for new
versions. We do not need to get regularly new stuff with some senseless new features. Please concentrate your work on the really importend things the software needs in order to stay ExpertSDR2 the best SDR-Software.

Uwe

Middle mouse click on the band drop down are, gives you band pop out box that can be docked/positioned, making it similar to how it was before. A similar mode one might be added at a later date.

@ramdor: Thanks for your hint. I already read this in another topic.
How I wrote "To bring a window for the bands up is not a good solution . First it looks ugly because for the window bar it is not possible to intergrate the windows seemless in the interface.".
Hope, it will be changed in the final new version of 1.3.0.

I think you all need to write to Roman directly. On this Forum, I wrote an impassioned plea, based on my own experience of 1.3 and those of many users who had contacted me. There was no response from EE to that. Also, I had written directly to Roman back in January when I tested 1.3 and detailed all the shortcomings including the ridiculous GUI changes. They went ahead and released it anyway. The depth of feeling is huge but the message is not getting through. Hence emails to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. might start to sway their thinking before the damage of a split user base between 1.2 and 1.3 causes long term difficulties.

There is a note in the most recent newsletter, typically cryptic and vague, about GUI changes coming in Alpha 4. It is not clear whether this refers to a good dose of common sense at last or, God Forbid, further screwy downgrading. So please get your thoughts to EE in emails while you have the chance.

Hi, Erik.
We get the message regarding the band selection changes and certain others, like codecs assignment, in one of the coming Alphas we'll implement switchable GUI for band selection.
Though I have to say that I've received a lot of positive feedback regarding the new way of band selection, that is why we'll make it switchable and not just return to what it was in 1.2. I guess here, on the Forum, there is a community of HAMs who feel strongly against new changes and those who are in favor of new GUI just don't want to start a squabble.

The point is, we'll return the missing functionality from 1.2 in future, what we released were Alpha versions, we've collected feedback to move forward. Thanks, everyone for sharing their thoughts.

Hello Roman,

A squabble does not come into this in any way. There was a time when my opinion counted for something, which led me to believe that what I advised you of in January would be seen by EE to be how much of the user base would see it and be taken seriously. It should have been. But it seems to me that you think I am on the 'magic mushrooms' these days. If only.

Erik,
Of course, we value your opinion, more on the matter, at the same time Yuri Pavlov voiced his concern about the new way of band selection, at that moment we decided that eventually, we'll make it switchable. What we didn't count that some people will get so frustrated, thinking that these changes are final and for them, ESDR2 is ruined, despite the fact that these are only Alpha versions. So we decided to make GUI switchable in one of the coming Alphas.
To add new functionality is one thing, but to change the functionality there is, is a whole different matter. It's a complicated process, not Veni, Vedi, Vici :pardon:

Yes indeed, good news that the functionality of 1.2 will be restored.

There will be those who think 1.3 is the best thing since the invention of cornflakes, probably because they have no interest in the high end features associated with specialist activities and contesting that set 1.2 apart from the competition. But it is necessary to understand that any new release, even if labelled Alpha, is going to point the way in users' minds to the future. And the future looked bad for the majority of us and that ESDR2 was going from the best to an also-ran. That can only be damaging. You would not continue with loyalty to BMW if the newest model had a Lada or Yugo engine in it.

Roman, good to hear that the the band-selection-buttons and the band-mode-buttons will be back. :yahoo:
But please do not forget to fix older bugs like the 10Mhz-Reference-Port in the QRP-Transceiver.
