Erik,
Just a quick question. I went to the device manager and looked at the audio inputs and outputs.
I have within Vac 10 audio cables.
But, for some reason in the device manager it has 2 of everyone.
So I have 2 vac 1's, 2's so forth and so on up to 10.
Is this normal?
Or should I only have 1 of each.

Erik,
OK, I have done everything except that when I look at the default devices I see this as follows:
Playback. MX259 is default, this is my computer monitor speaker.
There is also VAC 9 which is listed as a default. I don't know how to take away the default and just make it active.
For Recording, Microphone USB PNP Device is Default.
And VAC 9 is also listed as a default.
I can disable the 2 vac 9's but it does not make it available, like the others.

Erik,
OK I did what you said except the emails about VAC Line 9 as defaults.
I went into MMTTY and have Line 1 as receive and Line 2 as transmit.
When I open MMTTY I get an error message, Can't open soundcard (5).
And no matter what I choose I get the same message.
Any suggestions?
Mark

Erik,
I told you that there were duplicate Audio Lines 1 through 10 in the device manager.
I went in and uninstalled the extra one.
I then rebooted the machine and lo and behold they are both back again.
I know, that there should not be 2 of every vac line. Unless I am wrong with that assumption.
But not sure, why they reappear when I reboot the computer.
Any advice?
Thanks!
Mark

These are "end points". Each VAC line has two of them. Think of a VAC line as a pipe - it has two ends. When installed into an Operating system, the VAC software has to provide identifiers to make the pipe exist in software. Hence for every VAC line, the Windows OS identifies two instances of each line. So it is normal.

Ok so you created 9 VAC lines per the UMA. That is ok. But for the purposes of MMTTY VAC lines 3 to 9 are not in play. To remove a default from VAC 9, set the default to something else per my tutorial. Default and Communication Default for Speakers in Playback and Default and Communications Default to a Windows microphone in Recording. When you make something default, it removes this attribute from what it was previously.

I do not know what you mean by "emails about VAC line 9". It seems a wrong turn because VAC 9 is not in play, has nothing to do with anything.

So you have followed all my instructions and you still get "Can't open soundcard (5)". Something is still not configured correctly. Confirm you have followed all instructions. Else you may need a Team Viewer session so I can see the issue first hand. From a distance all I can do is provide the necessary information and you now have that for Windows and MMTTY. More needs a visual inspection of your settings.

Erik,
OK I have my Speaker as the Playback Default Device.
I have Microphone USB PNP Device as the Default Device.
Virtual Audio for 9 is no longer a default item.
When I load MMTTY I still get the Can't open Sound Card (5)

It's an X-File for sure. It needs Team Viewer. If you want it let me know ID and password to my email address (see EI4KF @ qrz.com)

Hello Mark,

When I attempted to connect to you I got this:

So could you please update Team Viewer. It is late here now so, if you like, tomorrow when you have updated then send me another password. I am here all day so can connect anytime.

OK I am in - I see some personal stuff so I have minimised TV. Please start ESDR2 and MMTTY - I could get a look at it before I go to bed.

Hello Mark

Ok something has gone wrong somewhere. Mind you, you already know this. I understand your exasperation.

From what I can see, which you already know, nothing receives on the VAC line, not MMTTY and not FLDigi. And I think you mentioned WSJTx doesn't either.

So it is not a MMTTY problem. I think we have to break this down into component parts. VAC - it is up to you of course but if it were me I would completely uninstall it using Revo Uninstaller which will, with an Advanced Scan, remove all registry entries and all existing VAC lines too. Optionally you could download the latest version 4.64.

Then reinstall and create just 2 VAC lines to start with, VAC 1 for RX and VAC 2 for TX. Set to WavePCI with MS per Int at 3 for RX and 5 for TX.

Retry MMTTY and let me know. I can look at again if needed but it will now have to be tomorrow.

Erik.

Erik,
I concur. I believe it is the VAC also. Will I have to pay for a new version of VAC?
If they sent me a ID code or something I will need to check my emails.
Let me try that tonight and see what happens.
Thanks again.
Mark

I wonder if this conversation between you two concerning Marks problem with his MMTTY reception might be better conducted by private Email please?
So far there have been 20+ messages between you in the last 24hours most of which are totally irrelevant to the rest of us.
Thanks

It is already on email but there has been a problem; latest exchanges are by email only except this one of course.

I tried to keep my replies of a general nature, providing potentially useful information for all readers, I am sorry for the bandwidth. I am though surprised that it is considered irrelevant to see tutorials on MMTTY, by extrapolation any digital mode s/w, and the Windows sound system. Still, it did look open-ended. Rest assured, I am gone.
