Any possibility of third party external ATU? 02 May 2021 20:16 #1

Hi I would like to buy SunSDR2 DX, but I could not find any info if it is somehow possible to connect third party external automatic tuner like MFJ-939. Is it really not possible? Is it necessary to use EE original ATU? Thank you.

Using ICOM AH-4 tuner. Any chance to connect this one?

Wow! :pardon:
And what exacty you think would be the problem connecting devices like MFJ-939 to SunSDR? Its what MFJ calls "plug and play", if I do recall correctly. Just put "classic" cable away.

I have successfully used MFJ-993B for almost 3 years with SunSDR2 (non Pro). And it did the job.
Up until I came up with new ideas and started to build my own ATU.

I have an ATU-100 from N7DDC connected and it works very well. I only use it for 40, 60 and 80 Meters, for the rest of the bands I don't need it.

Hi,
The AH-3/4 can be used with non Icom radios of any sort including the SunSDR 2 DX by using this simple interface

pacificcoastsail.com/PCSC_working/Blog/BOAT%20RESOURCE%20LIST%20VIP/mods_dk%20-%20ICOM%20-%20AH-4.htm

It works fine for me with my SunSDR2 DX . I am also using an LDG AT-200 Pro II autotuner on the other HF antenna socket for my other antenna so both are available as required.

Has anyone figured out how the SunSDR2DX determines if an ATU-100 is attached? Does this depend on the RS485 data or simply the status of ATU_IND or ATU_TUNE lines? I'm trying to see if I can build a "translator" that makes the AH-4 appear to the radio as an ATU-100 to simplify the tuning.

(Obviously) 1. the most "easiest way" is to ask Roman and 2. the most "proper way" is to make feature request to add new TCI command (EXT_ATU or something) with necessary parameters.
