Hi,

I connected a 70cm transverter (from Transverter Store, UA) to SunSDR2 DX, using ADC IN and DAC OUT, and an external control pin to switch the transverter into TX mode. I also ensured ADC/DAC are set correctly in the BM manager. The setup works well with RX and I got it well calibrated with the XVTR menu.

However when transmitting, it appears that the internal PA in SunSDR2 DX activates, and I get a 'PA protection' message after a second, with high SWR and ~120W indication in the power meter. If I lower the Power setting in B.M. or Drive, there's just a threshold when there's no TX at all.

Is this still a bug in EESDR3, or should I connect things otherwise?

Hi,

Dear EE, anything you could advise here? I don't dare to try transmitting before understanding why the PA protection kicks in.

Best regards,
Pasi

Pasi,

You need to send an email to Roman at EE. I have a few transverters myself, but I have not had the time to try them on my MB1 yet.

Alright, I raised a technical support ticket. I really like SunSDR2 DX and don't want to burn it accidentally :)

Installed EESDR 0.10.0 alpha. The transverter transmit issue is still present - reception works well, but transmit very apparently drives A2/A3 outputs even though ADC/DAC ports are defined in Band Manager. Even when setting the 10m band to ADC(DAC conversely, the PA still kicks in on transmit and there's no output on DAC when using the XVTR band.

However, transmit and receive work correctly on the transverted (432MHz here) band when using 10m band directly.

Pasi,

Have you tried 0.11.0 alpha and checked if the transverter function works? Or is it still the same? And did you hear anything from EE about this?

Hi,

Yes I tried with 0.11.0, I still see the internal PA module activated.

No reaction for my EE ticket just yet.

Pasi,

Have you sent a report about this issue on the Github page?

Hi, not yet.

I now had the chance to put a wattmeter & dummy load into A2, and the problem is indeed that the SunSDR2 DX pushes full 100W out from A2 when using the Band1 and Transverter settings, even though A2 is not enabled anywhere in the ExpertSDR3. The transverter, connected to ADC IN and DAC OUT, works as it should. Lowering the Drive power lowers the 10mW DAC OUT output proportionally.

This is potentially dangerous if one has an external PA w/TCI on A2 (I have it on A3).

I'll send a report to bug tracker too.

Excellent, Pasi! I will also have a try with my MB1 when I have the time to do so as well.
