Guys,

I've been encountering some random freezes or maybe pauses from the ExperSDR2 software. Initially i read the computer requirements regards what i'd need as such i felt quite comfortable with the computer i was using as it's quite beefy!! My computer is an HP Z820 which has two Xeon 16 core processors, 64gigs of ram and a 1Gb SSD so, i figured that should be sufficient. During the times when i see the pauses, it looks like only 1 or 2 of the 32 cores is getting hit really hard, but the others are quite idle. I'm going to assume that the ExpertSDR2 software is multithreaded, however, the task manager on Windoze 10 seems to only be using 2 of the 32 cores.

Anyone have any suggestions or seen something such as this happening?

Hello Osiel.
Make sure you have the latest video drivers installed along with the Visual Studio Redistributable 2017.
You've mentioned CPU and RAM, of course it's more than enough, what about the video card?

ESDR2 is not actually multithreaded, just 2 threads where the main thread is overloaded, ESDR3 on the other hand is multithreaded.

I had the same freezing occur here using my SDR2 Dx with SDR2 & 3 SW.
I finally traced it to, of all things, the RJ45 jack on the PC.
Just wiggle the RJ45 cable, at the PC, and it would occur.
I found that a few pins were bent back. I was able to carefully straighten them towards the front, plus cleaning, and the freezing stopped.
However, I replaced that PC LAN connection with a "usb to RJ45" adapter by " CableCreation - CD0026 ", and it's been a perfect LAN connection since.

GL on your finding

Tom,
Great feedback, however, if the NIC is suspected, a continous ping from the computer to the radio should reveal such issues as what you've mentioned. That being said, i will leave no stone unturned!

Roman,

Thank you for the response.. i will check the drivers and teh VSR 2017. I can tell you as of now, i don't have anything Visual Studio Redistributable installed.
The display adapter is a NVIDIA Quadro K2000, with 2Gb of ram. It looks like i may not have the latest drivers which i am downloading now. Also, it may be the video card as when i grab a window and move it around the ESDR2 does pass as long as i have any other window selected and being moved. More after i install the latest drivers.

Roman,

I can confirm that after upgrading the NVIDIA drivers and using the Expert2 software the problem got worse. If i grab another windows, as long as i have it grabbed and I drag it across the screen, the display remains frozen until i stop moving the window. On the other hand, when i use the Expert3 software, it works 100% as it should. Now, if we could get the audio profiles to display and work, i think i would be staying on E3.

Osiel,

ESDR3 is in development, full ESDR2 functionality will be transferred there eventually.
In the meantime, I can suggest to check this page for possible solutions github.com/ExpertSDR3/ExpertSDR3-BUG-TRACKER/discussions/118

Hello Osiel,

If I can chime in, I do think your Video card could be culprit
I have been over this before with other users- that Card is a Native DX11 card, it is Not FULLY DX12 supported, using it in V3 will most likely be worse then it is now. in the link I provided below in the Graphic feature section behind the DX12 if you hover over the (11.0) you will see that card is only cable of the DX 11 features, not a true DX12 compatibility or fully DX12 featured

A shame as at one time when it was released back in 2013 it was a decent card, however many things have advanced since then and the card in many a current system is a Bottleneck and performance breaker

Please see this link for all the info around that card- www.techpowerup.com/gpu-specs/quadro-k2000.c1838

Also to anyone having freezing issues of display or choppy video I would suggest you check your video card specs, this site is one I use very often when diagnosing video issues or when working with customers on building or upgrading PCs - Just enter your card into the search section and it will return the specs about that card - www.techpowerup.com/gpu-specs/

Roman, this may be a handy tool for users to have to check their Video components

Rick,

Thank you for the feedback. As i mentioned, the updated drivers appeared to have made it worse, however, i failed to see that the OS also has updated in flight. After all upgrades were applied, i didn't further check, however this morning, i found that the issue which i faced yesterday, was no longer present. A new video card is on my todo list, hopefully, next week i can update the video card.

If your looking for a good inexpensive card that seems to work well for V3 (or v2) and you like NVidia

I have in one of my machines a GeForce 1050Ti - this card performs well, I have not had issues with DX12 or v3 graphics ( other then 1 or 2 alpha releases were things got hosed up)
My resources stay low with that card and a Ryzen CPU on a Win10 and Win11 O/S:

I'd be happy to share my Build specs if you'd like
