To minimise latency I have found that I need to plug my soundbar into the headphones socket.
Would have been nice if EE had thought of putting a line out for powered speakers on the rear of the DX?

You can do the same by using an external audio interface.
And connect speakers, headphones, microphones etc.
How do you VooDoo?

+1 to EI9HEB

DX already has all necessary and enough connectors. There are heaps of devices on the market, allowing to connect practically everything.
For audio - even latest version of E-Coder has top quality audio output.

Personally myself - I wish to reduce external holes in DX body by as minimum as two. It will help to keep the moisture out when going to DXpeditions.

Even better if someone from developers on forum will find a time and start open-source project for TCI-based audio to line-out/spdif/ + universal PA engage/control output.

Top version of ecoder looks to be very expensive… massive overkill for a line out substitute IMHO

As mentioned, to minimise any latency I would like a hardware solution.
The device you mention are software driven?
Open to suggestions if you know of a suitable device?

Those mostly HW/SW these days. As minimum you have to select OS and drivers.
Just for example (because there are many other on market), nothing special, but has all audio "bells and whistles":
www.soundimports.eu/en/minidsp-2x4-hd-kit.html

Anyway if you after quality sound, your range will be withing 200-300 Euro/USD.

P.S. Some time ago (but this year) I have calculated TCI-based, network device (RJ-45 and WiFi) with standard audio outputs + preamp output + Toslink - that came to around 200USD (assuming I print box on home 3Dprinter and write SW + libraries myself). Hence - very close to above on price. Very different on functionality, though: because I thought about taking audio stream via TCI and network. Still thinking about this project ... but a bit later, and may be, if there will be any interest.

the external interface is a hardware solution.
For example, the chip used in SUNSDR2 DX as Audio DAC (Cirrus Logic CS4272) is widely used in many USB Audio interfaces.

I'm using Focusrite scarlet 8i6 and as speakers two Yamaha HS7 studio monitors.
For monitoring I use Audiotechnica MH50 plugged into the headphones output of the interface.
