TOPIC: Memory Scanning feature

Memory Scanning feature 23 Dec 2019 17:09 #1

It would be great to be able to scan repeaters.
1) store CTCSS and offset
2) pause user defined amount of time when sql breaks
or
pause for the entire amount of time sql breaks
or
pause for user defined seconds after transmissions stops so you can listen to an entire conversation

PowerSDR for Flex and SDR software for generic SDRs have this feature

I also would like this.

Where are the data stored on windows/linux/mac?

Also if the TCI add functions to change/set memories a TCI module could be made.

Scanning is not a HAM feature, so we won't implement it.

It would be enough to add the new commands to the TCI interface, then, other programs could do it instead of EESDR.
At one point Expert developers should stop EESDR development and complete the TCI interface with a lot of other commands.
TCI is simply great.

I think almost all newer Ham radios have a scan feature of some kind.

Not a HAM feature? Have you ever seen a 2meter fm rig that doesn't have it? Remember the SUNSDR2Pro is also a 2 meter rig not just HF. That is a very ham feature for monitoring the local repeaters in a disaster or just for weekend rag chewing.

Tnx for the information where configurations etc are stored.

I agree that the software should not implement scanning as this is best done trough a plugin.

I can probably make a scanning plugin but then the TCI has to be updated to support this. Set/get and also subtones/split etc

Did some testing on windows and ubuntu but was not able to use TCI. I do not get any response from the software and enabling show log does not show anything.

This would be a very nice addition for anyone that is using the RIG for local 2 meter operations. :good:

I have started to create a simple plugin. It's now scanning trough a list of frequencies.

I'm using TCI so it's not possible to enable/disable CTCSS.
Before i'm posting a link to a beta version i'm going to add a few simple scan functions.

For now the program reads the memory file from SunSDR: mem_base.ini
If or should we say when? eesdr adds TCI function for CTCSS i'll add this.

The first alpha release is very limited.
* It's command line only - no GUI (for now)
* Working for Windows and Linux
* Mac (Not tested on Mac)
* Only one scan method (for now)

There are a few challanges:

#1 mem_base.ini does not store repeater split and/or CTCSS
#2 TCI protocol 1.3 does not have a functions for:
enable/disable CTCSS
set CTCSS RXTX, RX, TX
set CTCSS RX and TX tone
set CTCSS level
#3 I wish that the TCI protocol could report when SQL_LEVEL changes
state. i.e if threshold is set to 100dB and the actual level is i.e
90dB TCI is reporting that the squelch is open.

I could manually read the SQL_LEVEL i.e every 1sec

#4 The Linux and Windows stores the mem_base.ini different. Can some one send me a file from Mac?

For #1 we can do a workaround:
a) manually storing i.e the split in the comment field.
The downside for this is that the user has to format it 100% correct
in every channel

b) auto-repeater shift based on region.

c) use a different file with a format supporting split, lock out etc.

For #2 i'm not sure if we can make a workaround without EE
implementing this or using an external software for the decoding.

I guess a few comments from you can be posted in this forum thread.

Moderator: is it ok for me to create a thread on "Third party software" category for further dialog for the development of tciscan?

Anyhow a simple alpha test can be downloaded: github.com/LA3QMA/tciscan

Thank you for your elaborate letter!

Points 1 and 3 will be implemented in the ESDR2 after transverters. It's not easy considering the way ESDR2 works internally and will require changes. I already discussed that with the programmer, it's a done deal.
Point 2. These commands will be implemented in the ESDR2 1.3.1 Update 5.
Point 4. Attached the requested file.

You can create a new thread on the Forum or continue the conversation with us via direct email exchange.

Please let me know when there will be a first alpha or beta version I'll put a link on our web-site, here eesdr.com/en/software-en/software-en, if it's OK with you.
