You mean UR3IQH's one, 7x7, Ray? Yes, I got it too. Actually I have purchased it when was looking for good ATU for DXpeditions. I was really disappointed, because 7x7 did not tune my 40m shortened trapped vertical dipole - by reason not enough resolution and L/C capacities (actually 7x7 is still on the shelf in garage, waiting me to sell it to someone).

This disappointment was the final trigger and main reason why my friend and myself started the our 8x8x8. And I have unified ATUconnect to operate with both types.

I am actually waiting for new coils to be 3D-printed for 40-meter traps, want to record the video with 40m as well, specifically in out of antenna's bandwidth areas.

Hi Pavel.
Yes you are right, mine is the Auto 7x7 1KW amp from UR3IQH using an N7DDC design.
My antennas are not too far off resonance & it seems to work fine with my 600W amp. I did worry whether I would ever receive it from Donetsk but it arrived with no problem after about 3 weeks

Sure, 8x8x8 cannot perform the same as variable coil one - there is not even close to enough resolution. Hence, I did not even try to tune 40M one on 80 :)
However ...

P.S. I am thinking about to assemble couple of those 8x8x8 from the boards left from the last order. Let me know if you are interested.

In next couple weeks the ATUconnect will be updated: we are removing TCI-MQTT-GW from the chain, TCI (WS) over MQTT will remain.. This will simplify the solution and reduce the power consumption.

The reason for removing TCI-MQTT-GW: Qt6.2 has QtWebsockets fully implemented. Hence, TCI-MQTT-GW, which was an interim solution (before QtWebsockets ported from Qt5 to Qt6) is no longer needed.

I have a Palstar HF Auto ATU I would like to retrograde with this.
Your thoughts?
The fact that HF Auto has no real CAT control without running multiple programs make this seem the right way to go.
Shouldn't I be able to drop this in, connect all the existing steppers, optical counters, and SWR bridge and be ready to go?

Should work ...
Couple things to keep in mind:
1. Motors. Nema17 is a bit tricky. We have tested few models and, finally, ended up with 17HS4401S-PG5.18

Surprisingly, smaller NEMA motor sizes does not have enough initial tork, even with more powerfull gear (apart from capacitors and coil are moving really easy).
17HS4401S-PG5.18 was a compromise between overall length and needed tork.
Hence - make sure you have tested your coil/capaticors with desired motors prior, to avoid further surprises.

2. This construction relies heavily on AD8310 based Tandem vk6nx.net/SWR-PWRmeter_v1.0-en.html
On our journey we have tested five or six different tandems from different vendors (even well known) ... There was a hope we can use them, but...
Just make sure you review AD8310 based Tandem construction (SMD parts may be tricky to solder) and understand calibration process - it is pretty straight forward, but still recommended to make mind around it, as it will require very basic programming skills and use of Visual Studio Code.

3. Make sure you understand minimum requirements for ESP32 programming. Again, it is require very basic programming skills and use of Visual Studio Code. There are heaps of help videos, etc., so it should be relatively easy. Practically, any ESP32 model with sufficient GPIO count will do. We have selected the model with external WiFi antenna:

due to longer distance required for WiFi.
Alternative solution for transport (if WiFi is not suitable on any reason) would be RS485. In earlier models we have used it. The problem with RS485 is that you have to deal with congesstion and RF interference on cable. We have ended up writing custom comms protocol. After all measurements we started to think about CAN-bus, as much more reliable in comparisson with RS485. We had CAN working, but still requires some massaging to fit into ATU project.

4. I will publish print boards for motor version. Also have models for 3Dprinting for motors if you need it.

Honestly, hard to say. Really depends on what you trying to fix or achieve.

In a nut shell, the advantages of our ATU (at this stage) are a bit more advanced:
- Tandem (allows moch wider tuning/operational range and more precise measurements)
- tuning algorithm
- remote control App based on TCI
and everything above can be easily modifoed to your needs.

Current code for ESP32 was build as "universal" - it can support practically any tuner configuration: L-match (any kind), T-match, motor-based or relay-based. (github.com/dkaukov/ratu-v2-esp32-firmware/tree/main/src/device)

Some add-on note, came out of recent telegram conveersations. Applicable for the devices, which will assume power calculation from AD8310: either extermal power/swr meter, PA power/swr meter or ATU app with power calc.

Please remember that AD8310 FWD values (typically used for power calculation) are linear, but absulute value varies dependent on frequency.

Here attached screenshot with some FWD AD8310 values (in mV) gathered from the tandem, which I use in my PA (as you can see, the higher the frequency, the higher FWD value, and the exception is 1.8MHz, where it is opposite):

Please note, that absolute values in every AD8310-based construction will certainly be varied, and dependent on combined Att and AD8310 origin.

Hence, the typical solution (to get correct power values per band) would be either: calculate average multiplier or use per-band polynome formula.

Meantime, SWR calculation is not affected, of course.
