Hello to the Forum,

I have just received my ColibriDDC with BPF fitted last week.
I'm slowing working my way through the manual to get the best out of the receiver.

I have a question about the "Headphones Jack". The manual states the following:

"Headphones jack - Here you may connect headphones with 16-30 Ohm impedance or speakers."

I know it my sound a basic question but does the 16-30 Ohm only apply to the headphones, or to the speakers as well?
I would like to connect the output to my Bose Bluetooth speaker which has a line in port on the side. Maybe later (if possible) I would like to run it to a separate amp and then on to a speaker/s more suited for HF reception.

Just want to double check and air on the safe side before moving ahead.

Many Thanks for your time,
Most Kindest Regards,
Andrew,

Either or as long as the total load impedance is within that range

Hi Rick,

Sorry to sound dumb but can you please explain a little more!

From what I read my Bose speaker's input is 8 Ohm. I guess this would not be good enough?

It has an amplifier built in and puts out 50w! FYI!

Just being careful not to damage the receiver!

Regards,

Andrew

Are you planning to connect the 8-ohm speakers direct to the phone jack? The amplifier inside the SunSDR2 was not designed to drive loads lower then 16-ohms. Your speakers sure can take it but the amplifier inside the radio might not. Also don't expect it to be very loud when directly driving the speakers. They're really meant to drive headphones only.

Is that per channel or total 8 ohms
keep in mind the jack on the sun is a Stereo jack that 16 ohms represents (2) 8-ohm connections I think, so if you're using one of them then you need to make sure your only using 1 channel of the connection if that is a single speaker, if it's a pair and there 8 ohms each and you have wired correctly, you'll be fine because each at 8 ohms would represent 16 ohms total

even at that single 8 ohm I wouldn't think if would hurt anything.

Maybe Roman or Vasiliy can correct me if I am wrong

Okay!

I think I have not explain myself very well. Please forgive me but not too tech minded, more of a listener!

So my ColibriDDC has the phone out jack which yes I guess is best for headphones only with fore mentioned Ohms. As it says you can connect it to a speaker. I first thought of my Bose mini speaker. I am not sure if the 8 Ohms is talking about the speaker output or the line in socket!

Do line in ports have impendence to? I thought from headphone jack to line in then the mini speaker amplifies the sound and out the speaker no problem, or is it not that simple?
Sorry to sound so dumb!

Regards,

Andrew.

I found the manual online for the speaker and sadly it does not state any figures other than the following about the AUX input:

Using a cable to connect an audio device
You can connect the audio output of a smartphone, tablet, computer or other type
of audio device to the AUX connector. The AUX connector accepts a 3.5 mm
stereo cable plug (not provided).
1. Using a 3.5 mm stereo cable, connect your device to the AUX connector on
the speaker.
2. Press on the speaker.
The AUX indicator glows.
3. Play music on the audio device.
Tip: Increase the volume on the connected device to near maximum, then use
the speaker volume buttons to adjust the volume level

Thats it!!

Andrew

You'll be fine, all you need is a 3.5 MM TRS to a 1/4TRS adapter if you already have a cable with 3.5MM at both ends
otherwise, a 3.5MM cable to a 1/4TRS cable

something like this: would work fine for a cable www.amazon.com/Hosa-CMS-110-Stereo-Interconnect-Cable/dp/B000068O36?ref_=ast_sto_dp&th=1

Hi Rick,

Thank you for coming back to me!
The ColibriDDC has a 3.5mm output for the headphone jack and the Bose speaker is also 3.5mm. Already have a cable (good one) so ready to go!

Many Thank for the help and advice.

Regards,
Andrew
