My 1Tb SSD crashed hard and is unrecoverable by any utility I have, so I am in the process of creating a new 1Tb SSD for my MB1. I performed a fresh installation of WIndows10 then installed ExpertSDR2, but I have run into some problems.

Questions:

1) When my old SSD was working, the MB1 would boot up and run ExpertSDR2 without any intervention on my part. Now I need to login to my Windows account just to get past the startup screen. How can I fix this so that the Windows desktop opens automatically? I'm by no means a Windows expert, so I apologize if I'm missing something basic.

2) When I'm logged into Windows on the MB1, EESDR2 starts, but is unable to connect to the hardware. In Device Manager, I see four entries without drivers, and Windows cannot find drivers for any of them. I assume this is at least part of the problem. Where can I get the necessary drivers?

3) By far the easiest way to solve all of my problems would be if there is an image file that could be used to restore the SSD to the way it comes from the factory. Is such a file available?

Thanks,
Stan

Question 1:
1. Right click on the Windows Start icon (bottom left of taskbar) and select 'Run'. 1. Type netplwiz

2. In User Accounts dialog box, uncheck the box next to 'Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer'. Then click OK button.

3. To ensure the operation is authorized, you are required to enter and confirm your password. Enter Password and Confirm Password, then click OK button.

4. Restart your PC then you can log in without using a password.

Question 2:
1. After a fresh installation of Windows, the ethernet port will not have the correct ip address and hence cannot be found by ESDR2. Open Internet and Network Settings and then select Change Adapter Options. Find the ethernet port for the SDR, probably labelled LAN9500A and open its properties. Open the properties for Internet Protocol Version 4 and set the ip to 192.168.158.1 with subnet 255.255.255.0. OK out and close all dialogue boxes.

An alternative to following the above text is to refer to the UMA, section 9.14 MB1 Fails to Connect to the Computer.

2. Now the drivers: since you do not state which four devices are not working, post a picture of Device Manager with those problems expanded so we can see them.

Question 3:
No there is not. It is recommended that the user creates his own image / backup. I recommend Aomei Backupper as it is free and reliable. www.ubackup.com/

1) I can't find a checkbox to uncheck for requiring a password. I've attached a photo of the netplwiz dialog box.

2) I've successfully reconfigured the ethernet port and it now finds the MB1 hardware. Unfortunately, I still don't see or hear any receiver activity, and when I click on the power icon in the top bar of the EESDR2 window, it turns on for a couple of seconds then turns off by itself.

3) I've attached two photos of the Device Manager screen showing the four entries that have no drivers and the dialog box I get when I ask for properties of each of the four items. The dialog box is the same for each one.

For the device driver issue, did you yet install the motherboard chipset drivers? I believe, from memory (and I could be wrong), that the chipset installer contains those missing components. It is at download.gigabyte.com/FileList/Driver/embedded_driver_intel_me_11.6.29.3287.zip but if you have already done this, let us know.

For the problem with ESDR2 not turning on, I can only give some pointers and you may need to ask Roman at EE. Possible reasons include the failure to install the MB1 Utility software or an issue with the Windows Firewall. ExpertSDR2.exe must be fully open for ports and protocols and there must not be any blocking entries as they take precedence over the allowing entries.

Regarding unable to change sign-in options: cannot remember - I had someone last year come to me with this trouble. I am not sure, maybe check that the Windows Hello sign in feature is disabled. It's in Windows Settings > Accounts > Sign-in options. I always recommend, with a fresh Windows install, to create only a local account and not a Windows account, and leave the password blank - saves a lot of aggravation.

If disabling Windows Hello does not work...

I found my notes from last year. This may be irrelevant because I do not know what kind of account you set up. If you set up a local account you should leave password blank. If you set up a Microsoft account you get the option in netplwiz that I referred to. So I presume you set up a local account? If not then why the option does not show is beyond me. But if you did, you have to setup a MS Account then it needs to be verified. Once that is done then you can use netplwiz to remove the requirement to sign in. Afterwards you can revert to the local account.

I was able to configure Windows 10 to boot directly into EESDR2. Now it all seems to be working, except I still have the same four items in the Device Manager that do not have drivers. I've tried Windows Update, I've deleted the devices and rebooted to see if Windows would install the proper drivers, and I've tried using the embedded drivers you pointed me to a couple of messages ago. Nothing seems to fix the problem. Any other ideas?

One minor annoyance: I cant' set the Windows background to the nebula/star field background. I know it's one of the preloaded backgrounds that comes with Windows 10 because I see it as a selection on my other Windows 10 machines, but it's not available in this installation even though the other five preloaded backgrounds are there. Any ideas about this one?

Thanks,
Stan

I am not well versed in Windows 10 but you could try themepack.me/theme/nebula/deskthemepack for the missing background. I do not know why you do not have it already.

As for the missing drivers, if they are not from the chipset driver installation then I cannot understand it. I have (re)installed Windows 2 or 3 times since 2016 and never seen this issue. Maybe ask Roman if he knows how to fix MB1 device driver issues, he may have been asked before and has an answer.

It's been a while since my last posting, but I finally resolved the issue with the missing hardware drivers in my fresh Windows 10 installation on my MB1. I determined that all of the hardware with missing drivers was from Intel, so I downloaded and ran the Intel chipset driver update app and it "just worked!"

I'm don't know why such common drivers shouldn't automatically be installed during the Windows 10 installation, but everything is fine now, so I'm happy.
