using extenal antenna tumer with auto-tune option is not any issue due to the SunSDR low power.
But with power amplifier connected to Sun SDR it is not an option. High power is too dangerous for antena box in auto mode. You need to use "Tune" button which bypasses PA, but in this case you need to activate the extenal antenna tumer manually.
My wish is to add a new function Ext Ctrl tab, similar to Thermostat, which uses no 7 output.
You can add "External antena tuner" checkbox. When checked, it activate no 6 output, when "Tune" switch is pressed. No 6 output may be connected to antenna tuner, and activate auto-tune mode.
It is very simple change that may be done in the next software revision.
I use actually SunSDR2 PRO with EB300 power amplifier and MFJ-993B antenna tuner. The new option woul make may life easier ;-).
I have own now an SunSdr2DX and looking for conneting my MFJ-993B Tuner. I need an simpe Opencollector Output what is coming together with the tune button. Any solutions.
Autotune is possible, but not so nice.
I dont wont to believe that there is no possibilty to connect an autotuner until now. So nice the concept of Hard- and Software is, until now no possibility for an autotuner?
How long is expert electronics on the market?
Thats so important like to drive an pa. I want to remote control my new sunsdrDx, looking for days how to connect an mfj-993b. I dont want to run it "autotune" mode, because he is starting sometimes in QSO.
There is an ATU connector on tha backside of the DX, i found absolutely no information. There is a tune button in the software, but no possibilty to connect it to an EXTCTL or to the ATU connector? I wont believe
The interaction with an external tuner is a disaster. When I switch the band, the SWR can be very high because it has not yet been tuned. If I press Tune nothing happens at first, although the control is set to 20%. If I move the Tune control to the right, software moves it back to the left. Guys, how is an autotuner supposed to start when it gets no power? At the moment I can only run the tuner in autotune mode, there is no control output for a tuner.
What about the tuner socket on the back of the DX? There is no occupancy plan yet. It would be no problem to activate this socket for the next update.
What we need (like Icom Tuner interface)
Icom Autotuner Connector pinout:
Pin 1 is the KEY pin, when the 'TUNE' button is pressed, it's pulled low by the tuner to tell the radio to start transmitting. This is the green wire on the AH-4 cable.
Pin 2 is the START pin to/from the microprocessor. Under normal circumstances the START pin is pulled high when a remote tuner is attached to tell the radio that the tuner is present. When you press 'TUNE' the radio pulls the pin low telling the tuner to start the matching sequence. This is the white wire on the AH-4 cable.
Pin 3 is POWER rated for 1 amp max and switches on and off with the radio. This is the red wire on the AH-4 cable.
