We had used the "DX" this weekend at CQWW160m - at OL4A and we had the following persistent problem.
The output from the DX was set up to 42W (to drive the AMP.....) - all worked fine for about 1 hour, after that the internal sensor thought it is too warm and pulled slowly down the power to about 12W. Internal temperature was indicated as something in between 62-68 deg. The fan was running - touching the heat sink it was practically at the room temperature - 25-30 deg - but the case was VERY hot - probably well over 50 deg. We used PS delivering 14,1V pretty stable.
So we lost a LOT during first night - changed the external setup so that only 9,2W was needed and since than all was fine. How ever for that the pro2 would do nicely. Still the internal sensor indicated something around 50 deg (48-54), the Current during RX was bellow 2A, during TX was well over 7A !!!! Is this normal ? While delivering 40W the current was over 15A !
So my guess is that there is some hardware problem inside - correct ? I can hardly imagine that to be Software related.

The output power indicated by the DX is the same as measured by other devices - i.e. I do believe them to be correct. Also the current indicated by SUN was the same as measured. (We investigated since we thought that 15-17A for 40W output is too much). The voltage indicated was 14,1V - the measured one was 13.9 so also OK.

Than we had other - I am not sure if issue but property of the device. We had a setup 2xRX to 1xTX more-less as here: eesdr.com/images/Document/Block_Diagram_SO2V_ENG.pdf
And the problem is that the separation - as indicated by the "mixer" in the software is only 40dB and according to our observation it seems to be so. If there was a strong station - it was audible in the second radio on other frequency etc. Is there a chance it will get better ! This is not enough for contest operation as second radio on one band.

Otherwise we were very happy with performance of the radio !

Please Roman let me know if I should contact our dealer to solve this probably Hardware issue within warranty.

The contest work is not a heavy circle as like as FT8 and temperature 62-68 deg. should not lead to power reduction. Usually, power is reduced when SWR is high. We recommend you to connect us via e-mail and agree on the day and time of remote session via TeamViewer to check is it a sowtware or hardware problem.

I can report, that the SundSDR2 has no Heat Problems. I'm on Curacao Island PJ2, and working a lot on FT8, because of strong local QRM, i didnt expect this, but he is working excellent at this temperature (about 28 °C) but in the Room about 35 °C or more. The SDR is getting hot, 62°C, but no problems.

Hello Roman,
the issue is solved how ever ..... read further.
At first before connecting the second DX I wanted to recreate the problem we had during CQWW 160m CW - so I wanted to heat the TRX fast - set the maximum output to 100W and keyed it down - it delivered 99W - keyed it down for long time over 30 minutes and all fine - 97W after that time - temperature was 68C both the cooler and box were about the same temperature. There was 19,9A - 13,8V. All fine. When I regulated the power down to required 40W there was something like 13A and left it keyed on for an hour and no problem !
During the contest for safety reasons we did set the power to 40W maximum - so I did it again and voila - while delivering exactly 40W the current was 17,5 A !!!!! :girl_devil:
I tested at 20W level and again the current was much bigger then when maximum set to 20W. The unit started to heat rapidly and the protection drives the power down.

I tested only shortly the second unit and the behavior - i.e. bigger current going in while the maximum is set to lower level was the same.

All test to antenna - SWR 1.1

So it seems there is some SW bug while setting the limit power ?

Hi, Jiri.
I replied you via a private email, we need to perform a remote session with you to determine the cause of the issue.
We don't have it and haven't received similar reports, probably the issue is in the setup.
