Dear OMs,

I am looking for an external GPS reference device, any suggestions?
I am not looking for some very $$$ commercial product, just something easy solution.
On the net I found "LeoBodnar Precision Frequency Reference (GPS Clock)"
www.leobodnar.com/shop/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=234
It can give "+11.4dBm, drive setting 16mA" which should match the SunSDRpro2's 10-13
dB/mW required input.

Does anybody have experience with it?
Or any other recommendations?

73!

I'm using "LeoBodnar Precision Frequency Reference" for almost two years with a QS1R, it works flawless, great product and not so expensive. Anyway, in my opinion, you don't need an external GPS reference for SunSDR2 PRO.

Hi!

I’m using Leo Bodnar’s GPS reference for my MB1, and previously with my IC-7800. Works great, and would highly recommend it.

Dear Dan & Christian,

Thank You for quick reply. Actually I really want to improve VHF frequency stability - according to my friend 5RG "I am off frequency" but my frined is old and too much used to FM repeaters HI HI.
Anyways XMAS is coming, I must surprise myself HI HI
If you can help me also:
1.) Do I need to use Leobondnar GPS with "+11.4dBm, drive setting 16mA" setting?
2.) Does the GPS must be connected to PC always OR I just program it with PC than it remembers programming, P out etc?
73!
Robert

You need PC connection only for programming or/and if you want to use USB as a power source.
Other than that, once configured and with a dedicated power source it will not need PC connection.
This one has two outputs, I see they have another one with a single output (cheaper) :
Mini Precision GPS Reference Clock

Hello
For nearly 10 years I use a (surplus) Thunderbold GPS controller frequency standard for my test equipment., it is also connected to my Sun SDR. (using an active 10 MHZ distribution amplifier as described by TAPR)

With the free "Lady Heather" software you can at the same time synchronise your PC clock.
On top, there are many good technical articles about this unit on the web, as well as other software.
