Hello
I think the Colibri Nano and the SDR3 software are amazing!
One thing that would be useful is to be able to record band activity overnight (I am thinking CW) to see what was going on.
I can see there is the possibility of recording the IQ stream to a file, but I am probably doing it wrong.
Is it possible to record hours of IQ to a file and play it back later? Maybe on the panorama? Or any other way?
Many thanks

Did not test IQ recording on Nano (do not have this model), just on DX.
You can select HDSDR format type and then play it with HDSDR. It works. Even if selected EE IQ format - it still plays with HDSDR, but with some artefacts.

At this stage there is no legacy EE IQ player for ESDR3 as yet.

Just note that IQ file can grow fast, hence for all over night you will need enough storage. And there is a recording limit in a single file, hence it will be a long list for period like few hours.

Hi Pavel
Thank you for your post.
I at one point managed to do something that caused the SDR3 software to create a file for recording IQ data, though it was an empty file.
Now I am trying to figure out how I did this.
In the area in the SDR3 software that seems to be for creating an IQ recording, there is a button that lets you choose the format, and there is a way to choose the file location.
But I cannot find a "record" button!
How do you make the SDR3 software start making an IQ recording?
Here is how my software looks:

I can see places where I could record a WAV file, but not an IQ stream.
Maybe it's not possible in SDR3?
Thanks
Mike

That is correct place you are looking for storage. In the field where is says ExpertESDR3 you can call for drop-down menu and select desired format.

Here is record button on attached screenshot.

Current implementation of IQ stream in ESDR3 is exactly the wav-based format. It has extended header embedded, which holds all IQ information. This embedded header prevents you to play the file in any common-wav player; instead it should be opened in HDSDR or similar software.

It is certainly working in DX. We have recently recorded/played hundreds of files used in TCI skimmer development. Not sure about recording functionality in Nano, though, I personally did not test it.

Thank you for the quick reply Pavel.
This icon is "greyed out" on my SDR3.
I assume this must be because recording is not possible from the Nano.
That is a shame but I guess Nano users haven't been asking for the functionality or something.
Or is there a setting I need to use to activate the function?
Thanks and 73

By the way - thanks to the amazing Colibri Nano + SDC skimmer + 599 indicator, I managed to get through a 20 kHz wide pileup on 17m CW and I worked Bouvet! Clear as a bell! Happiness!

The icon is kind of grey by design. There is very slight diffference in a shade of grey of the idon when you switch programm On/Off, but it is still grey. Try to press it and see if it reacts. Because Nano, theoretically, should be not much different from DX in that particular function.

Hi Pavel
Thanks again for your helpful reply.
I restarted everything (I should try that more often!) and I can record now!
I am told there is an HDSDR "player" so I should be able to "play" the recorded IQ stream.
Is there a way to play back the native SDR3 format?
Many thanks for your help

Unfortunately today we do not have (yet) a native EE player, which can play ESDR3 IQ stream. It is yet to be developed by EE, but I do not remember EE announced any deadlines on that.

(There was earlier ESDR2 native player, however, it is not be able to play neither ESDR3 format, nore latest versions of ESDR2)

Hence, HDSDR is pretty much the only SW for playback at this stage. May be there are some other SW around, but I am not aware.
Actually, to play via HDSDR, you need HDSDR SW itself. And just select the playback source it it. It is quite easy to navigate that functionality via HDSDR menu.
