Hello, I have my network set up a bit complex. My radio is in my normal LAN, we will say 192.168.1.10 but I would like to put the remote server in a DMZ network, say 192.168.2.10. My firewall is set up to allow the 2 IPs to communicate but, as I would expect, the "starter" application is unable to find my radio.

How can I manually input the [static] IP of my radio on the new remote software? Is there something I can add to the config.json?

Thank you all

Howdy Matt,

Perhaps a questions for roman to pass to programmers,

Seems like there should be a away to identify the IP, You suppose the Starter Bat is somehow looking at localhost?
Please do not email me and ask for help I no longer will be part of this, If I could delete /remove my profile I would do so.

No, this is not really a normal issue for people. I have many isolated networks in my house. Kids have their own network, radio stuff has it's own network (electrically isolated from all other networks in the house using OM3 fiber), any servers I run are on their own network. When you run ExpertSDR3 or the new Remote Server, they will insist on discovering the radio on the network. Well, that's my issue, my radio is not on the same network. It's on a network that has access to the radio network but due to the limitations of "broadcast network traffic", there is no way for any software to discover the radio in this method. I would have to manually tell the software what IP to use.

As of now I can use ExpertSDR2 software that server but ExpertSDR3 and/or Remote Server, will not work because they cannot discover the radio.

To be exact, my radio is assigned the IP, 10.10.10.73 on a /24 network, the system I'm running the software from is on 172.16.10.0/24. There is a direct route from one to the other but when I run the ExpertSDR3 or Remote Server, I can only see UDP broadcast traffic on ports 40000-40003 (I think the range was) to 172.16.10.255. That would only discover a radio if it was on the 172.16.10.0/24 network directly.

I could create an IP alias and NAT the device but that would add latency and be messy, if it would even work.

There should be some way to manually put in the IP of a radio for any non-standard networks. I'm surely not the only ham in the world that might utilize VLANs at home.

I have the same problem "starter" does not see the SunSDR 2 DX. That "Starter" does not see my radio I was told by essder who analyzed the "Starter" log. In my network I have only one Subnet from this network I can reach the DX. Only "STARTER" does not see my radio. essdr could not give me a solution to the problem. I don't see the radio on my home router, where I see all the others that are connected to the LAN. I can't tell if it's a network problem or if it's a radio Ethernet protocol problem. Who has a solution to the problem ??? Thanks and 73 de Arturo, HB9MIR

I have only been able to test this by having the radio connected to my linux laptop as the server.
Then i can connect via the "cloud" using another laptop or my phone/pad.

If my windows laptop is running as the server the cloud is not finding the radio.
And all tests in windows have been with the MS firewall etc off

Some routers will block UDP broadcast traffic for security. If you have a router like that, you would need to input the radio's IP manually, as I would need to in my situation.

I'll wait to hear from Romen. I'd imagine there is a way to feed it the radio IP info. I'm not sure the purpose of the "cell" application but running "cell --help" showed me some level of hope:

This might help understand my issue here. This is my home network enclosure. It contains my firewalls, switches, VM cluster (vSphere) and SAN. I don't have a typical home network. The linux host that I am using for remote access for my radio is a VM guest that is contained in my VM cluster.

Hello.
Thanks for the thorough description of your setup, there is not much to ask.
1. The way you've described you want to use ERS contradicts the main idea of ERS: the radio should be in the same subnet as the server software.
2. Please check your 10.10.10.0/24 with Wireshark, does it detect the data?
3. Manual input of the IP address will be implemented in the ESDR3 by the end of 2021.
4. I cannot say the same about ERS, it's far from our priority at the moment, TX mode has a way higher value. Maybe at some point next year we'll look into IP routing.
On top of that, it's not a trivial task, as I said ERS wasn't designed for such operation, server software connects to the Cloud as a client, the same applies for ESDR3 client instance it also connects to the Cloud as a client. So, as a result, you don't have to open certain ports for them, they operate as outgoing connections, not incoming. Server-Cloud-Client exchange all required info like IP, UUID, etc. automatically, there is no need to manually enter anything.

It would take a lot of work to get a virtual server on the same network with my network. I can see the broadcast traffic on the 172.16.10.0/24 network as it's directed to 172.16.10.255 but that will not route over to the network that my radio is on, 10.10.10.0/24. I would have to get a physical PC or similar to place on the same VLAN as the radio for the broadcast traffic or try to NAT an IP alias on that network but I'm not completely sure that will work. I will try it out after I'm done with work.

Thank you Romen. I do not expect everything to work in my network environment. My home network is set up much more like big business network. Many layers, routes, firewalls and restrictions. I am a network engineer professionally and my home network is also my lab for learning. I will be patient for updates.

Now for my remote access, I connect to my network with VPN and then connect directly to the radio. That would not work for many but I am blessed with 1/1Gb fiber internet.

I have the same issue with a much simpler network setup.
I'm using a VPN network (OpenVPN) over several routers. Because I have a second home.
In this case I have several OpenVPN sub networks which also force me to enter the IP manually.
Is it a big efford to implement an option for setting IP adress, I guess scanning a whole subnet is more efford?
I hope this option will come earlier then end of 2021.

While not easy, there are ways of setting up L2 encapsulation through VPNs, just not too easy and for this purpose would be complicated as both of your homes would need to be on the same subnets but without any conflicting IPs on either side. This is simple in terms of drawing it out but a royal pain in the butt to set up and make work without issues.

I do just hope for manual IP input.

I have had this problem myself and now I have it again.

I use OpenVPN into my pfSense router which is set up as a OpenVPN server. I found that I had to do this as a TAP rather than TUN to allow L2 encapsulation, which in turn allowed discovery. However, recently that just stopped working. All of a sudden EESDR3 can no longer discover the SunSDR2DX over the VPN connection. I'm still trying to figure out why this is so.
