First post, first day with the SDR Pro. Using EESDR2 1.31 update 11 on a 4Ghz macOS Monterey 16gb ram
Runs fine except for high CPU 150% causing fans to run. Any ideas or suggestions appreciated.
Tried to find an earlier version without any luck.

Thanks reply. I was hoping to use version 2 until 3 goes into Beta
as this is a new unit. I guess what I asking is, should this run ok
on a machine of this spec without the fans or do I need to look

Rob,
1. In theory, 4GHz CPU and 16 GB RAM should be OK for a Windows PC and even for a Mac.
Nevertheless, I don't know what kind of video card you have, and macOS always has issues with video drivers.

2. Our programmer uses MacBook Air 2018 with the latest macOS for tests and ESDR3 runs OK on it.
ESDR2 1.3.1 Update 11 was tested on the same MacBook Air at the time it was released about a year ago, it worked OK, no CPU usage spikes.

Just checked non-pro SS2 and DX on Intel Macbook Pro (2020 model) and M1 Macbook Pro (both 12.6 latest) - ESDR2 runs as following:

1. On starting (before main application window appears) - 110% CPU
2. On 'idle' (when transceiver connected and ON, but no activity - say, antenna disconnected) - 45-50%
3. As usual - 70-80% (dependent on mode and air load)

Not sure what is you HW model, but 150% sounds unusually high to me.

Did you upgrade to 12.6 from previous OS, or clean install?

Thank you for that. It was a clean install. I am a bit suspicious because others have no problems on lesser machines.
Roman could be quite right, it could be GPU driver issues. Apart for high loading kicking the fans on it runs fine and I really like it.
I have a backup of an old OS I may try it on that, In the mean time I am seeing what the load it on V3 before committing to a firmware update

Indeed.

the Intel one I've tested on is mid spec 2.7GHz 16RAM machine. And 80-85% is pretty stable across even earlier models (2013 and 2015) - I've been running ESDR2 on them for years, last with Catalina.

ESDR3 is almost twice lesser. But go or not go to 3 right now - tricky one. You cannot seamlessly switch between 2 and 3 anymore, FW update has to be done every time when switching.

Ive just looked at V3 and it looks use a fraction of the system resources on V2. I have not updated the firmware and assuming some of the strange behaviour
is because of that. Ive just struggled setting up SDC for the CW skimmer so reluctant to jump to V3 as that looks very different. Sounds like it IS possible to
go back to firmware to match V2 so maybe all is not lost.

You will have forgotten all theses struggles having had one for a long time

Yes, all "bugs" you see when running ESDR3 is because it is expected when on old ESDR2 FW. It will even crash from time to time on certain modes and conditions That is why I said "FW has to be updated" - if you want to get proper functionality on ESDR3, then everything works.

SDC - just remember that you have either use 15.24 (for free TCI) or buy newer SDC to have TCI (result of the Feb "divorce"). And it has to be set to TCI on SDC side.

2 is certainly not lost, just FW update - and you back on 2, when needed. The key is that 2 is not getting any feature updates anymore, because all focus on 3.
3 has all better filters, some new functions (and more will be).

Ok, that's helpful info, I have 12.1. Im trying with V3 ESDR but not luck yet. It works with V2 but less controls on V3..Could be it needs new firmware.
I don't mind paying for SDC if I can get it work. Can't find the TCI commands in V3.. Ill get there in the end but it would be nice to have it working
before committing.

In SDC there is no differerence to sent up with 2 or 3, just TCI has to be selected.

Yes, Im there. I can see data arrives in the TCI tab of SDC, skimmer set to on but nothing decoded (there is activity)
If you get time, perhaps look at my settings image below (the settings seem to work ok'ish on V2)

you are on very old version of SDC - it may have older version of TCI. Try 15.24 this one should be working with latest ESDR2 upd 11.

Also, in regards to you CPU load - check what you have set currently in Automatic graphic switching. Might be possible that you are trying to run it on in-build GPU.

Good tip on SDC. hadn't realised it was an old version.
Mac is an iMac so no automatic graphic switching. If my MacBook had an ethernet port I would try it on that but alas, no.
