I don't know if I missed maybe already a post, but does anyone works with the ERS with ExpertSDR3 for a PI remotely?!
I tried to find any information about setting it up, and I was not able to find something. Maybe I looked at the wrong place.
So if anybody has information about setting up and using a PI for ERS, I would love to know about it!

Hi, are you looking for info on how to run the pi as handling the remote connection?

well I have the windows server "starter" running. before. So that's working fine. i was just wondering, how it works with the PI version. I did not try it yet. Do I have to install
on the PI the ExpertSDR3 version too, or is it just the starter part and on the PI is only the starter running?! Where and how do I enter the mail and the password?!
I can play a bit with a PI, but I am not so much into linux at all!

so i downloaded the image, put it on a SD and the PI is running. I found the ERS directory and the run.sh, the cell and the starter file. But still, what should I do now?!
Where can I put my email and my password?!

Is there anybody who can help me?!

you will find a file on the SD card named config.json
This is the place to put the credentials in.

Hello Andreas,

ok, I looked to many directories and I finally found it in the boot directory. After then running the run.sh the PI works as server.
Nevertheless it is a PI3 and I guess it is too slow. Running the web client it does not show the waterfall. I guess I have to try it with a PI4!

I jhaver loaded the IMG file and pi starts up but Configjson are write protected?
and when runing run.sh it gives an error ! Module ftdi_sio not correct loaded hmmmm PI4

Dear remote Pi experimenters,

I altered the config.json file directly on the SD card, just after writing the image, before starting the Pi.
The file is on the top directory level then.
And later just run starter (in a terminal window), nothing in addition.
I only did some very preliminary tests in a simple a LAN environment, but here both Pi4 2GB and Pi3B+ seemed to work fine.

Hello Andreas,
after I found the json file in the boot directory and changed the email and password it works.
I use the version from 20221223.
The only thing I would prefere, but it is not needed. The starter file starts automatically only when I boot into the terminal.

And one question, what is the standard password for the pi, I tried to use Remote Desktop and I don't know the password and the user to login!?

Now as I am writing I have another question. I guess the starter need not so much CPU power, so can I run an the same PI my NodeRed Server
for switching my remote station?

Sorry for all this dumm questions, but as I said, I love the PI with NodeRed, but I am no linux user.

Hello Andreas,
I played more with the PI and experienced, that I get almost no audio using the PI. IF I switch to the starter.server on a windows PC I get a stable audio without changing anything else.
I thought there is a direct conection between the TRX and the cloud, so no idea why the audio is not working with the PI but with the PC right away. So fare I switched back of using a PC as server!

Hi Karsten,

I also got stuck when I tried to activate SSH with the predefined Image.
With a clean image that was solved, and here I did not see a noticeable difference in audio compared to starter in Windows.

good to know we are not alone....
I actually used both Pi3+ and Pi4 in my (few) experiments, and the Pi3 did not make a noticeable difference - at least as long as just starter was involved and nothing else. And all in the local LAN with close-to-zero ping.
I will start more experiments under more realistic conditions in a few days,
ideally I would like to use a mobile LTE connection to a larger garden area, I am curious whether this is realistic or not.

During the weekend I loaded the ERS server PI image to an SD card, edited the username and password in the config.json file and tested. It booted up and it worked straight away. I also tested on PI3 and PI4 and could not see much of a difference. The server is stable but as RN6LHF – Vasily mention in a previous post, there is still some work to do with the delays.
Further I got attempted to try Daniels Wee solution using a VPN. This work was mostly done by my friend Arne LA8OGA who is a programmer and know how to deal with Linux. I only provided an Raspbian Pi4, a SD card and remote access to my network. In short, a VPN software on the Pi then Arne was able to bridge the Pi VPN to my home network. I have tested this briefly today and it is the first time I have worked CW remotely using my key.
I used my mobile phone as a hotspot on a 4G+ network that was good, 160Mbs downlink 62Mbs uplink and 20ms delay. Will continue to do more testing and Arne LA8OGA might type up some documentation if someone is interested. See video on the link below. Hello Rune,
as Andreas said, nice to know that there are some more out in the world testing the PI as starter server. I had trouble with the audio when using the PI, know I have a PC runnign and not tested again!

But one question do I have, so Arne build a VPN bridging the PI and can then VPN to your Sun using the normal WIN software without using the starter server?!

I tried some month ago the same and I think I got the answer from Rome, that you habe to habe the same subnet to get it working. So I quit to work on that.

Beside that I worked through the weekend some staions at the contest, just to see how it works remote. Quite a big delay in the sinal, about 2-3 seconds, more than I ever had with Flex, so you have to use the monitor function to see when your transmitting (voice) is actually done, so that you can release the TX button. Beside that, audio quality etc. is perfect.

One more question, you used you E-coder remotelly? Using the starter server or via VPN?! I use the E-Coder just for the footswitch and the VFO. I am nor able to teach or use any button with ExpertSDR3?! Where can I configurate this?! Or is it not possible yet?!
