My SunSDR2 DX seems quite hot even by not doing anything.

The power is connected to the radio. The radio reports 13.6V and the PSU is 14.4V
The radio is quite hot and if i "turn on" the power in the EESDR3 the software reports 47'C
So even in RX only its 47'C is this normal?

The fan runs for a while and then its "cooled". And later ts going hot again. The ambient air temperature is 18'C

My tranceiver is on 24/7 so i thinking of adding extra cooling. I don't want to open it and let a fan get air in/out as dust is always getting trough even with good filters. And HEPA filters is a bit overkill ;-)

Dear Kai Gunter!
The temperature is really bit high ... That is just my observation.
Strange that radio is "seeing" 13.6 V PS voltage, but the PSU is more than 14 V.
As I know, the optimum voltage is 13.8 V for that RIG. Do you have correct (last) FW?
I also have 2DX and temperature durin "berfot" CW QSOs is never over 42 deg C. My shack temperature is around 18 deg. as well. :D :D
Can you go down with your voltage? I would go to 13.8 V on PSU.
But that is just me or my 5 cents.

Another thing. Fan on my RIG is rotating all the time. when temperature is higher than 39 deg. C speed is increased.

I have adjusted the PSU down to 13.8 the radio reports the same value +- 0.2 so then they are in "sync".

Going to see if the temperature is going down and report back.
And yes latest firmware. But pre EESDR3 i recall that the radio was often warm even when it was idle compared to another SDR brand starting with an F.

Same result ish. Its 40'C while idle or in RX only.

Not going to re-install. Waiting for next update and make a clean install and compare.

Forgot to say that its on ubuntu.

Strange. I will try this weekend on my virtual Ubuntu. I had Ubuntu bootable on main shack PC but I changed my M2 disk and make only Windows copy. SRI for that. I will report results.

thank you. Not sure why the temperature is so high at idle.

The remote server is running in the back but i really don't think this should increase the temperature for the tranceiver.

And i have not checked the drawings to try to reason on where this heat is accumulating. Maybe i should open the unit and take a picture with my thermal camera. could be a failing component?

I would wait before openning RIG. I would try to use it on new install or even on new install with EESDR2.
New FW downgrade and latter upgrade back to the last FW.....
But that is just me. If you are confident oppening it than you should try it your way.
Good luck!
Regards with respect!

downgraded with same result.

Then i upgraded again same result.

Did this on both winblows and linux.

So now i'm going to wait for the next release of a firmware and if it's the same result i'm going to open the unit.
I dont expect any magic smoke to escape ;-) but i can use the thermocam to see where the heat is accumulating.

Strange my friend. Sad to hear that.
The only thing what is still possible is to reset (or deep reset) the RIG on factory settings. It is described in ver. 1.3.2 SUNSDR2DX user manual.
But I always have bad feeling when holding deep switch(or two of them) and powering RIG ON at the same time.
Maybe worth a try.
