I set my remote network router up so that I can open up a VPN tunnel in order that I will appear as if I am on the remote network. From there I just operate normally. This works quite well for me. Do note that your latency will have to be low because EESDR2 will give up on the radio connection if the latency gets too high.

Hi
I tried using vpn , but don’t seem to find the radio when doing it.
So basically I got the radio on at home , I have a vpn set at home. Which is done in my router.
When I go out my network, using 5g or Wi-Fi.
On the remote side lap I use open vpn to connect to my home net work where the pro is, but do not seem to
Be able to find the radio.

I have tested with anther radio ie the Icom rs-ba1 software and all works ok when out my network using the vpn. I can connect to my Ic-9700 and use it remote.
Could you explain to me which vpn software u using and setting please.

I had some difficulties with VPN originally until I realized that you need to make sure that it is set up with TAP mode and not TUN mode. In TAP mode, it will behave as part of the original network and drawing an IP from the network DHCP server. In TUN mode not all the packets are bridged. What I ended up having to do is to use TAP mode and create a bridge from the VPN to the LAN side where the radio is residing. Took quite a bit of work but having gone through it, I now realize that there are a lot of not so obvious things that are needed to be done.

Out of intertest, why didn't you want to use the ExpertSDR2 Remote software by itself? I find that this works very well. I have also installed a webserver on the remote PC so can use any HTML 5 web browser to use the radio from anywhere in the world.

There is a good manual on the 'Software > ExpertRemote system' tab explaining the set-up. If is very straight forward. Suggest you start by getting the Remote Server/Remote Client software set-up firstly before attempting to set up the separate Web browser version. You will need a PC to host the Remote Server software. This software will talk to the Radio using IP Address:Port Number. You can check these by opening the ExpertSDR2 software, Options > Device > SDR Address. Note the IP address and Port number. The trickiest bit is probably the Port Forwarding rules that you will need to set-up on your router. You will need 2 port forwarding rules. Assuming the radio port is 50001, then create a rule 50001-50003 TCP/UDP pointing to the IP address of the PC hosting the Remote Server software. Then another rule for port 5050, assuming you didn't change the default when the Remote server software was installed. This second rule also needs to point to the IP address of the PC hosting the Remote Server software. To be able to use the system from any location, you will need either a static external IP address on your router, or use a service to map the dynamic IP address assigned by your internet provider to a fixed domain name. The new v3 remote software doesn't need the static IP address.

In my case, I set the TAP mode up using the configuration tool that's inside the pFSense router. Both the host and client need to be set up to handle TAP mode.
