TOPIC: Output power fluctuating in digimodes

Output power fluctuating in digimodes 05 Jul 2023 22:35 #1

I had a pretty successful day operating the SunSDR2 DX on 17 meters, but all of a sudden it won't output full power. Now, I know that in SSB I have to have a signal to modulate with, but I'm talking about digimodes like FT-8. I'm using ExpertSDR3 and JTDX with TCI mode, and what happens now all of a sudden is that the output power fluctuates between 0 and whatever power level I set, but no more than 20 Watts. The max current draw is down to 6 amps. Especially in FT-8 this used to be constant. I tried changing the drive setting, no joy.
The strange part is that tuning still works fine, this outputs power as normal. I tried restarting the PC as well as the SunSDR2 DX, no joy.

And now just as I type this, I tried switching to 20 meters and transmitting there, which worked with full power. Then I went back to 17 meters and now it works again there too...

Is this a known issue? Anything I can fix?

Addendum since I cannot edit my post: I did try in ExpertSDR2 and that didn't change anything. Also, SWR was below 1.10 and the antenna connection was unchanged too. Switching to and transmitting on 20 meters and then switching back to 17 seems to have fixed it. Very weird.

Hi,
I think I have a similar issue, currently not sure if it is software or hardware related.
Any findings since then?

Which ESDR3? 1.0.5 or 1.0.6?

I woud suggest you switch RIG OFF and ON .... Do the same with your PC.
That happend once here, but now is OK! I am back to 1.0.5 :-( I have RIG connected directly to PC; have 2 (two) LAN cards...

I have everything switch on and off several times.
I am always using a second LAN for the SunSDR.
Same with another power supply
Same now with ExpertSDR2, seems to be a hardware issue, does not make me happy..
tnx Pibo

Last idea... Switch off Radiosync or any VAC. Use TCI in version 10.0.5 also for audio in JTDX if you are using it...
