It would be great to have independent power settings for PA operation in ESDR3 as an alternative to using ALC, which is prone to generating overshoots.
What I mean is, that when having the PA button pushed in ESDR3, different power settings apply. So that whenever the PA is enabled, power will be reduced accordingly for not overdriving it.
If I understand it right, power settings are stored in the device and not in the software, but maybe there is a solution for that.
If so, it could be integrated into the band manager as an additional "Power PA" column, besides the already existing "Power" column.

HI Eberhard

Funny world. I have been playing with V3 this past week and got the SunSDR2 DX hooked back up to my KPA500. All set up in V2 and working but having to remember to reduce power is a pain. As the power slider is not mapped to actual power out from what I can see e.g.(10% setting is not 10 watts out) it takes a bit of playing around to get it set to about 10 to 14 watts out initially. I have, or should I say had a full K3 line. I removed the K3/P3 from the bench this past week in favor of the DX. I have SDC controlling the KAT500 and a cable from the DX to the KPA500.

What would be great is functionality that would match the integration the K line has in this respect. On the K line, if I turn on the amp the K3 detects it is there and if I put the amp into operation from standby the K3 automatically reduces power to the level I have preset it to previously. If the amp goes to standby the rig goes back to 100W out.

In version 3 of ExpertSDR I was hopeful that the power setting in band manager would be independent of the drive slider on the main interface. That would be cool. It would then be very easy to put the amplifier into operation from standby. The DX would run at 100 w out until you click PA. The DX would automatically drop its output to the desired level and enable the TX switching on the PC. It could be this is already in the roadmap for development and we are just asking about it before the function is built. Any way V3 is really stable now and with the extra functionality the guys have added has made it very usable and stable. Excellent work and great progress in V0.9

Hi George,
So you're facing the same challenges as I do.
This kind of integration would be great - and perhaps save my PA from being killed by too much input power.
I'm slowly coming to an age where, from time to time I start forgetting things...

Anyway, let's see what more gimmicks ExperSDR will add to V3. I already love this new version although it's only in its alpha state.
The guys are doing a really good job and I can only say thank you very much to them.
