Excellent, Peter! You will have a really fast MB1 after your i7 is installed :so_happy: I will hopefully have my new Samsung 970 EVO disc in a few days, when this is installed there is not much more I can do to make it faster...

Hello Peter, thanks for the update and great news that it is all working. Yes, Windows 10 Home is fine.

Don't forget to buy the ancillary bits for the CPU upgrade - see UMA pages 66 and 67. Ensuring that heat is effectively dissipated has an importance over time to preserve both computer and SDR components.

Hi Arno - yes as I describe, it makes a big improvement.

Thank you for sharing in your other post the hardware that you used for successful cloning. This was where I went wrong and I will add your note to the UMA.

Hi all - thanks to everyone for comments and help. I have now upgraded my MB1 to i7-6700T, 500 GB Samsung ssd, and 16 GB memory. The PassMark rating that I get depends on the exact configuration as shown by the examples below, so we should use these numbers as guides only.

Nothing running except Intel Graphics Settings in the background.
Windows update service completely stopped. (I use WUMT for this and run updates at my convenience manually.)

MB1 using its internal display only: PassMark 9 result is 4028.
MB1 using an external display only: PassMark 9 result is 3937
MB1 using both the iinternal and an external display (extended desktop): PassMark 9 result is 3861

For reference, my original MB1 showed a PassMark of 2429, so definitely worth the upgrade however you look at it! - best regards - Peter

I have successfully upgraded my recently acquired second hand MB1 to a Samsung 970 EVO 500GB SSD and 32GB of RAM. It had previously been partially upgraded to an i7-6700T CPU and 16GB of RAM. As a result, I now have available free of charge to the first comer the original 120GB SSD AND 2 X 8GB sticks of Kingston KVR16LS11/8 RAM. If interested, please contact me by email - vk2bj..at..optusnet.com.au.

Hello Eric!

You use Samsung 970 EVO M.2 MZ-V7 ?
But this SSD has an interface PCI-E M2 and connector for connecting with one cutout, unlike the factory-installed SATA M2 with a connector with two cutouts.
Will such a PCI-E Samsung 970 work properly for our device?

Best regards! Igor RL5A

Hello Igor!

Just so you can be sure of the correct device - here it is:

It fits to same slot as original SSD. Please see my User Manual Addendum for more info. There is a Russian language version.

Thanks, Erik!
Yes, I read your publication in Russian. You write there that in MB1 you need to use SATA SSD, perhaps - this is an inaccurate translation into Russian?
I am glad that we can use Samsung 970 PCIe - the most modern and fast drive.

Hello Igor.

NVMe, AHCI and IDE are transfer protocols (languages). They run on top of transfer interfaces such as PCIe or SATA.

Within the MB1 are PCIe and SATA slots. PCIe is the fastest but the slot in the MB1 is not available. Therefore we are using the SATA slot.

Into the SATA slot we are choosing a NVMe SSD which is the fastest of the 3 protocols.

I concede, there is scope for misunderstanding especially after translation. However the wording is correct.

It always pays to ask, as you did, and you can be sure of all questions being answered. I now hope the SSD store is not too many kilometers from your home!

Hello HG6PTZ!
What processor are you using?
What version BIOS are using?

My MB1 use Bios ver 6, but MDH11HI SI (This is displayed at the first moment of loading)
I'm trying to install the CPU I7-7700T
Unfortunately, this is not working yet.
Maybe worth updating Bios version.I will try again.I would be grateful for any ideas and suggestions.
